PReSS v0.1 — RSS Reader for the PSP

Posted by greg

The Underminer, who you may recognize from such homebrew releases as Galactic Breakout, has unveiled something new for the hand held — Portable RSS, or better known as, PReSS.

I share the Underminer’s disappointment with Sony’s poor RSS integration from firmware 2.60 onward. This is where PReSS comes in & takes over. PReSS is a full-fledged RSS reader compatible with all RSS versions; Atom and RDF formats not supported, not yet anyway.

PReSS v0.1 Screenshot

PReSS v0.1 feature list:

  • Supports GIF, PNG and JPEG images
  • Compatible with all RSS versions (but not Atom or RDF)
  • Supports WEP WiFi connections (other encryptions untested)
  • Resizes images to fit the window
  • Has it’s own built in catalogue, filled with user submitted feed (submit feeds in the ‘Suggest feeds’ section of the website)
  • Fully skinnable
  • Topic expiring. With the more popular feeds; manually deleting topics becomes a tiring business.
  • Set an expiration time and type (either days or max amount of topics)

Note: only use the “Home” button to exit in the event of a crash; changes won’t be saved. Otherwise, use “Select” to exit gracefully.

Galactic Breakout v0.1 Demo

Posted by greg

I intended to post this earlier, but after having recently developed an addiction to Brick Breaker on my Blackberry, this new homebrew game captured my attention quite easily. Finally being able to put my PSP aside for a moment, I’m proud to present… (probably deserves a drum roll) The Underminer’s Galactic Breakout! A game that truly resembles the arcade classic. Bust bricks, collect power-ups, cash, weaponry, you name it — just don’t miss the ball on its way back down!

The demo includes 20 out of 70 levels; the remaining 50 aren’t ready yet, but will be available in the [free] full version. Galactic Breakout also features a story mode, level editor, and online rankings.

Doesn’t get any cooler than that. My word.

Special Operations v0.2

Posted by greg

Introducing Special Operations v0.2; a new funky fresh homebrew creation from The Underminer! Inspired by Splinter Cell, Special Operations is a 2D side-scroller with the ability to expand and create your own levels using the included editor.

Special Operations

v0.2 changes:

  • Added screenshot feature
  • Fixed jumping issues
  • Improved shooting. Almost all enemies can be shot now.
  • Improved memory issue
  • Fixed level corruption
  • Added levels 6 and 7

There are a few known issues yet to be ironed out, namely:

  • Memory Issue. I almost fixed this, but in rare cases the memory still runs out when you switch between the level editor and the game. You can check available mem in the level editor. To manually refresh RAM, press select in the title screen.
  • When an enemy and the player are both shooting, the game might crash.

You can submit any contributions (levels, textures/graphics/sprites, animations, etc…) to “The Underminer.” Contact information, amongst other details, can be found in “Read-me.txt.”
