Royale hittin’ homebrew homers with yet another PSP-Maps release. Version 1.1 introduces experimental and basic KML support; this allows for additional display information on maps, such as: directions, points of interest, custom markers, etc…
And I should mention Royale’s PSP-Maps (v1.0+) is an official entry in our ongoing Homebrew Idol competition.

Comments (15)Ooo… Beefed up for the Homebrew Idol competition is Royale with his latest version of PSP-Maps. You know what it’s all about — just with added freshness.

To unlock Google Moon, Google Mars, and Google Sky; you’ll need to do a little investigative work. So you should download the source code as well.
PSP-Maps is a tool that allows you to browse Google Maps, Virtual Earth and Yahoo Maps with your PSP and its WiFi connection. You can move around the map, zoom in and out, cycle through the different available views, search for an address, load/save favorites, etc…
It includes a cache system so you can browse later the maps you have previously seen, even if you don’t have WiFi available. There is also a PC version if you don’t have WiFi at all, so you can build a cache on your computer and copy it to your PSP.
Technically, PSP-Maps connects directly to the servers to fetch the images, it does not use the provided APIs since there are usually in JavaScript and not convenient for a homebrew.
PSP-Maps v1.0 changes:
For all the mobile cartographers out there, Royale has released a new version of PSP-Maps. Even if that’s not you — download & check it out anyway. Supported are Google and Yahoo Maps, as well as Virtual Earth.

Comments (34)Update: Royale has shared PSP-Maps 0.4; most notably adding support for offline browsing.
PSP-Maps 0.4 changes:
Royale’s been awfully busy with the Chromium-PSP port and his rapidly maturing homebrew app called PSP-Maps. I refrained from posting earlier versions until trying the latest, that is now version 0.3.

Royale’s Google Maps implementation doesn’t utilize the Google Maps API; for now, it simply retrieves and displays images direct on the PSP. With that said, you’ll need to be within range of a connected WiFi spot for PSP-Maps to work. Enjoy!
