OpenBOR Maplevania: A Maplestory Meets Castlevania Beat ‘Em Up Mod
greg | August 27, 2009
One more bona fide OpenBOR mod by none other than NickyP… Maplevania, if you couldn’t guess by the name, is a cross between Maplestory and Castlevania. Choose among 3 available characters — Ethan Belmont, Claus Moriarti, or Amelia Delacroix — and beat the shit out of whoever crosses your path. It’s what OpenBOR is all about.

NickyP quotes –
This was sort of an idea that put itself together over time. I love Castlevania games and always wanted to do something in BOR about it. I love Maplestory’s sprites and always wanted to do something in BOR about it. It wasn’t until one day that a friend of mine showed me a screenshot of Maplestory, one of the players was holding a whip as a weapon. It was then that the light bulb in my head turned on, and Maplevania was born (thanks Rob)! It originally started out as a joke/parody mod, but as development went by I took it more seriously, and in my opinion it turned out pretty well!
Damn well indeed.

The more mods, the merrier — especially this one… Today it’s all about NickyP and his new MegaMan inspired OpenBOR mod.
Inspired by the 8-bit Nintendo era and the Power Battle/Fighters arcade classic comes The Power War Episode 1. Here, let me quote Nick –
My idea for this mod was inspired by the MegaMan: Power Battle/Fighters games for the arcade. I had always wished they were 3 or 4 players instead of 2, so the original plan was to just make a remake of Power Battle/Fighters and have 4 player support. However, my love for everything 8-bit kicked in, and that’s when I decided I would instead remake all of the NES MegaMan games, with Power Battle/Fighters inspired gameplay. The result is, well, what you’re about to play in a few minutes!
