PSP Hardware Mod with EL-Wire

greg | November 7, 2007

I’ve never heard of “EL Wire” until just recently, and now that I see it put into effect, I recognize its dope ass modding potential.

Check this out… Courtesy of the team that does it best — AcidMods!

Evidently it’s only effective if you have a clear PSP outer shell. Now if you were to combine some EL Wire with the sound reactive LED mod, all those fine PSP ladies would be on your jock. Believe me.

PSP Force Feedback (POC) Mod

greg | July 14, 2007

Continuing to broaden his horizons, is the always wise F00 f00 with a new proof-of-concept video demonstrating a possible PSP Force Feedback (or Rumble) mod!

SO I was working on a clients psp today and was having trouble getting the sound lighting and the soled lighting working separately. I decided to use a pic as a switch so I could switch between the two lighting options via the home keys. Any way I got a bit distracted and started playing about with a little motor out of a mobile phone.

Push Activated LED Button Mod

greg | April 30, 2007

Hells yeah! Chalk up another first-class PSP mod for the crew that does it best, Acidmods!

Elite modder JR has successfully modded this particular PSP to illuminate a LED when buttons are pressed — those buttons being: triangle, square, circle, or cross. Surprisingly, this mod isn’t overly difficult to accomplish; planned is a tutorial illustrating the installation procedure. We’ll let ya know when that’s available. Till then, watch the video which demonstrates the mod in action.

There is one current issue to be addressed concerning MCD colour ratings, outlined in this quote:

We ran into a small issue after we glued them in, involving different MCD ratings of the different colors. Rather than tear things apart we will just issue this warning to people wanting to do this mod if you use different colors that are rated differently some may stay on dimly then light up when pressed. We will correct this problem in the future videos and list the proper values to use in the tutorial when it’s completed.

PSP Sound Pulse Mod Diagrams

greg | April 24, 2007

Now you can do it too! Acidmods have launched their insightful PSP Hardware Modding Wiki; persons with the desire to learn how all this cool stuff works, raise your hand.

Up now is the PSP Sound Pulse modification whom many have requested for quite some time. A steady hand and some technical know-how is obviously required, as it involves complex soldering and PSP disassembly.

PSP Sound Pulse Mod IC

This is the wiring diagram for the pulse to sound mod for the PSP. This mod will require advanced soldering and PSP disassembly. This mod has been requested on the AcidMods forum for many months as soon as CyberPyrot and F00 F00 had a free moment they went and bought some IC’s from the local geek store and sat down to brain storm. Five minutes later they had a working prototype which only worked with headphones or external speakers as seen in Grandpasmurfs video on youtube. Thinking this would apease the masses we moved onto other things. Soon there where many emails asking if we could do this on the internal speakers. So once again F00 and the pyrot sat down to work things out not long after the internal setup was invented.

Lifey’s Modded PSP

greg | April 22, 2007

F00 f00 has shared what he calls, “one of his best pieces so far.” And I sir, agree.

Lifey asked me to install music pulsing LED’s along with a few other mods. What I didn’t fully realize at the time was, this would be the first fully internal music mod so far. Pirate’s original poc worked only via the headphone jack. So there was a fair bit of brainstorming between cyber an myself to get this going. But it was well worth it.

Here is what the complete modification consists of:

  1. Clear case (installed by lifey)
  2. 4 LED’s music pulsing
  3. Wifi/mem/power to blue
  4. Usb Charging
  5. Dual nub (with lower profile)
  6. Hold switch for lighting on/off
