We fatties have been using MapThis for quite some time; well, some of us anyway. Now you — the young Slim fit PSP owners, who use a generic GPS receiver — can transform their hand held into a device capable of locating your very existence in this universe.
Once wired and configured properly you may take advantage of various satellites orbiting the globe. Position your exact whereabouts while mapping out routes to popular destinations and all that. But be careful, you may find yourself somewhere commonly referred to as the Twilight Zone.
MapThis 0.5.20 changes:
Note that due to FW limitations the version for 1.0-1.5 firmware does not have support for PSP-290 receiver.

Comments (5)Next time you find yourself waking up in a deserted parking lot or ditch, immediately start searching the unfamiliar area in hopes to locate your PSP. You never know where you’ll end up after a complete night of blacking everything out; but, remain calm, no need for the frantic behaviour, for Deniska’s “MapThis!” — the homebrew global positioning system (GPS) software — will aid in your state of confusion. Lock on target, and begin the long trudge home. Good luck!

Very impressive! “MapThis!” 0.5 should be ready in the coming days. If you have the PSP GPS device (PSP-290), or plan on picking one up in the future, give MapThis! v0.4.99 a try.

Comments (43)Neubit, notorious Acidmods gang member, known best for his modding skills, is doing something a little different this time ’round… Below is a video demonstrating the PSP-290 GPS peripheral working in conjunction with Deniska’s popular Map This! software!
Certainly shows how the PSP has evolved into quite the portable hand held. Very cool!
Nice wheels, too.
Comments (43)Deniska’s latest Map This! beta now includes support for the official Sony GPS receiver. It unfortunately removes support for other generic receivers at the moment. Also disabled are GPS data re-play & WiFi download features, but hey! It’s beta… what can ya do?

New features:
It’s been tested on 3.03 OE-B but may function under older custom firmwares too.
Fantastic work Deniska!

0.4.60 Beta changes:
Creation of US geodata file:
I provided a set of scripts & programs (all with sources) to get the Tiger Line data from US Census Bureau. They have been tested under cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com)…
Perhaps someone (in7ane?) could convert that code in to some kind of GUI program. To generate the geodata file for a state do following:
- copy geocoder folder to your cygwin home directory
- navigate to that folder (using cd command) under cygwin prompt.
- run following command:
./geo-map.sh [2-letter state abbreviation in capitals]
Example: ./geo-map.sh NY- wait for a few hours while it creates geodata.dat file
- copy geodata.dat file to your map’s folder.
Great news for US residents… I hope something similar is available for Canada. :)

Comments (147)Its never been featured on PSP Hacks but certainly it deserves a spot; that’s Deniska’s Map This!
Map This! is a complete map viewer and satellite navigation app for the PSP supporting select GPS devices. GPS/satellite functionality is only available if you’re running firmware 1.50. Otherwise you’re left in non-GPS mode; a fully functional map viewer for later homebrew capable firmwares.
There’s a tremendous amount of know-how involved with this application — take your time and read slow. It’s recommended you check out the Map This! wiki page for instructional details.
