Merc Roid v0.3.5 (Alpha) Released

greg | February 25, 2009

It’s still alpha, but it’s getting there… Bound to inspire the likes is Lokaire’s 3D engineered homebrew game: Merc Roid. And we have this update straight from the source –

In this update I mainly took care of bug fixes. The missile count is now good. The monsters move now (but gravity doesn’t apply to them for some weird reason). I added some pictures and sounds for when in the PSP’s vsh menu. There were some more behind the scenes updates to the LTE engine. Mainly the collision response animator was updated to the Irrlicht-1.5 code. It behaves exactly the same as before though. I changed up a few of the images to make things look better.

Earlier in the week we covered Merc Roid and posted a pre-0.3.5 video, which can be viewed here.

Merc Roid v0.3 (Alpha): A 3D Metroid Clone

greg | February 23, 2009

Soon to be [officially] entered into Homebrew Idol 2, and it’s no doubt bringing some stiff competition, is Lokiare’s Merc Roid: a 3D Metroid Clone developed using the LTE Game Engine. Lokaire has made slight modifications to the LTE engine in order to accommodate certain things; we’ll have that available for you after, should you need it.

Merc Roid is currently in the alpha stage of development; meaning, bugs do exist, you can expect bizarre behaviour at some points during game play, and it of course lacks certain functionality. Needless to say, Merc Roid is a work-in-progress.

Please report any issues via the forum release thread.

Controls:

  • L-Button: Jump (later I will have a system where you jump higher/further based on how much you do it).
  • R-Button: Shoot, hold for charge beam (shoots missiles when in missile mode, appears to charge but has no effect on the fire-power when in missile mode).
  • Analog-Nub: Aims the gun (moves the camera).
  • Triangle: Moves forward (move speed will vary based on how much you move).
  • Square: Strafe left.
  • Circle: Strafe right.
  • Cross: Move Backward.
  • Select: Switch between missiles and beam mode.

TO DO:

  • Create a story-line.
  • Create a menu screen.
  • Add a save feature.
  • Add more monsters.
  • Add a few boss monsters.

CPU-Modulator PRX v0.20 Released

greg | October 3, 2008

Shaping into an absolute must-have for your hacked hand-held is Lokiare with a minor update to his CPU-Modulator plug-in. Reap the benefits of preserving battery power by automatically increasing or decreasing the CPU clock speed based on current usage and load.

Quoting Lokiare –

In this release I’ve included the full range from 333mhz to 96mhz. This means it changes from 333 to 332 to 331 on down until it finds the “perfect” speed for running your programs. It changes speed less, and runs much smoother. When I get all the bugs out I will release the source code, so that anyone can include this in their homebrew projects.

CPU-Modulator v0.10 Released

greg | September 29, 2008

Upon popular demand Lokiare has made some minor yet valuable tweaks to his CPU-Modulator plug-in; the change log below details all you should know.

And yes — similar functionality is provided with weltall’s CWCHEAT; however, Lokiare’s CPU-Modulator is catered to this specific task only. Lightweight, less overhead — ya dig?

CPU-Modulator v0.10 changes:

  • Modulates between 333, 222, 111, and 95 automatically.
  • Removed annoying text onscreen.
  • Added logging support (change logging=1 to 0 for no logging)
