Popsloader for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A Released: PSOne Emulation

greg | June 18, 2009

PSX/PSOne/PS1, whatever you wanna call it, now play ‘em all with Popsloader — the full-fledged PSOne emulator — for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A. How? Here’s how:

Popsloader Firmware Selection Menu
  1. Download Popsloader below, extract it, and copy the contents to seplugins on your memory stick;
  2. Create a POPS.txt file under the seplugins directory and add this line to it “ms0:/SEPLUGINS/popsloader.prx” (without the quotes);
  3. Download Psardumper;
  4. Download the 4.01 firmware eboot;
  5. Extract the 4.01 firmware archive and copy EBOOT.PBP to the root of your memory stick;
  6. Using Psardumper, dump and decrypt 4.01;
  7. Copy ms0:/F0/kd/impose.prx to the seplugins/popsloader directory;
  8. Depending on the firmware version you wish to use (see the above screenshot), download the corresponding firmware eboot here;
  9. Again, decrypt that firmware eboot using Psardumper;
  10. Rename the following:
    • 3.00 - 3.03: pops.prx, popsman.prx, meaudio.prx, pafmini.prx
    • 3.10 - 3.30: pops.prx, popsman.prx, pafmini.prx
    • 3.40 - 4.01: pops.prx, popsman.prx, pafmini.prx, libpspvmc.prx

    to popsXXX.prx, popsmanXXX.prx (XXX being the firmware version, ie. pops310.prx), and so forth for each file;

  11. Copy the new renamed files to the ms0:/seplugins/popsloader directory;
  12. Enable Popsloader via the recovery console;
  13. Copy your PSOne game eboot to your GAME folder and enjoy!

PSPHUGO v1.3.0: PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 Emulator Updated

greg | May 29, 2009

Another console I grew up on — NEC’s TurboGrafx 16. Others may remember this console as the PC Engine, whatever the case, it packed serious hours of awesomeness. And just today — ZX-81 delivers a few more hours with PSPHUGO v1.3.0 — a port of the famous Hu-Go emulator running on a variety of platforms.

Bonk's Adventure

PSPHUGO v1.3.0 changes…

  • Audio Track support for CD-ROM (support only MP3 format with stereo 16 bits samples at 22k or 44k rate)
  • CD-ROM TOC file format support.
  • Using TurboRip, ripped CD can now be used directly with PSP-Hugo! See README file for explanations)
  • Increase PSP clock speed when playing mp3 CD tracks
  • Disable sound while saving states & screenshots (to avoid scratchy noise for few seconds)
  • Fix sleep mode issue
  • Replace SDL sound engine by direct PSP audio stuff to improve performances
  • Fix issue when loading more than one CD image
  • New backgrounds

My apologies to Mike D for frying your TG-16 power supply back in the day.

Jpcsp v0.2 Revision 990 Released: Java PSP Emulator Updated

greg | April 6, 2009

There have been countless changes since we last covered Jpcsp’s official v0.2 (Rev. 945) release. That said, unofficially compiled straight from their subversion repository, Jpcsp Revision 990. Check the Google Code project page if you’re interested in knowing those changes. Otherwise, skip to the download and experiment with the latest in Java PSP emulation. There is also a forum dedicated to compatibility — both for homebrew and commercial games.
