iR Shell v4.91 Update Released

greg | February 1, 2009

Here’s a minor update for Slim owners who make use of AhMan’s iR Shell. Fat users need not install this update; iR Shell v4.91 touches on TV out capabilities, which of course is only available on the Slim.

PSP iR Shell Screenshot

Current iR Shell 4.9 users will need to merge the 4.91 update with their existing installation. New users install 4.9 first then update to 4.91.

iR Shell 4.91 changes:

  • For interlaced TV, some games have low frame rate. This is now fixed.
  • For interlaced TV, some games have stuttered sound output. Most of them should now be fixed. If you still encounter stuttered sound for a specific game, you can try to increase the value of “Interlace TV Thread Priority” in iR Configurator. The higher the value, the lower the priority the thread will run and it will give more CPU time to the game which will help with the stuttered sound. You shouldn’t lower this value, unless you know exactly what you’re doing. The default value is 0 (same as setting the value to 21) which will work for most games.

iR Shell v4.9 Released

greg | January 25, 2009

Forget the XMB and just have iR Shell auto start straight from the get-go… AhMan’s iR Shell is a feature rich shell replacement that does everything: multi-task between a UMD, homebrew, ISO, and any of the integrated iR Shell functions, enjoy TV out via RemoteJoy, Net/USBHostFS support for PC<->PSP connectivity, control other infrared (Phat only) electronics, listen to your own tunes while in-game, and the list goes on and on… It’s no doubt the #1 shell with a bullet.

PSP iR Shell Screenshot

iR Shell v4.9 changes:

  • Support PlayStation Network: download games & demos.
  • Interlaced TV support has been added for PSP Slim. Games & homebrews launched via iR Shell will inherit the iR Shell TV mode. Most games will run at full speed with default CPU clock.
  • For Slim PSP TV out, added an option to control the audio output to PSP speaker. This will be useful for docking station with TV out & charging capabilities.
  • Added an option to disable Memory Stick MagicGate support. This is meant to be used for PhotoFast microSD to MSPD adapter, or other similar non-MagicGate MS. By disabling the MagicGate support, you will no longer experience the annoying pause in XMB, such as turning on the PSP, switching off USB mode from XMB, quitting game/homebrew back to XMB, entering XMB video directory, etc.
  • Added connection timeout support for NetHostFS.
  • For IR learning remote, added the ability to abort the learning process without waiting for timeout.
  • Support user provided font files.
  • Plus various bug fixes.

See “Release_Note.txt” for complete details.

iR Shell v4.8 Released

greg | November 17, 2008

Released in favour of the PSP Slim is an iR Shell update from none other than AhMan. Everything you should know is detailed directly below — new PSP Slim features and bug fixes…

Installation: download and install iR Shell 4.7 first; update to version 4.8 by overwriting the original files from the appropriate package.

iR Shell v4.8 features:

  • Added support to homebrews that are built with the option PSP_LARGE_MEMORY, that is, to use the extra slim memory. When running these homebrews under iR Shell, they will have access to another 26MB slim RAM. Pls note 2MB of slim RAM is reserved for iR Shell.
  • Enhance the HTML Viewer (originally developed by Dark_AleX) to use the extra slim memory. These should help to reduce “Not enough memory” message when accessing larger web contents. The HTML Viewer can be accessed via predefined homebrew #1 icon.

iR Shell v4.8 bug fixes:

  • Some homebrews weren’t correctly recognized by iR Shell and application names were displayed as garbage.
  • When setting np9660 mode in iR Configurator, some homebrews failed to launch.
  • Launching PS1 games via popsloader wasn’t working properly.
  • Copying a large file from ms0: to nethost0: will crash the system.

iR Shell v4.7 w/ 5.00 M33 Support Released!

greg | November 10, 2008

Prepare to be ahmazed indeed… Just received word from the man himself, and as promised, here is iR Shell v4.7 with support for custom firmware 5.00 M33. Welcome back, AhMan.

motiveMadness iR Shell Skin

iR Shell 4.7 feature summary:

  • Support Dark_AleX latest 5.00M33-3 CFWs. Users of original 5.00M33 & M33-2 should upgrade to M33-3 to avoid incompatibility issues. The latest Popsloader 5.00 is also supported.
  • An Infrared learning remote is added for PSP Phat. You no longer need to hunt pronto codes for your appliances. Just point your remote unit at the PSP and it will learn the iR code. It is available under higher firmwares and not fw 1.5 mode. Refer to the Release Note for usage details.
  • The nethostfs connection handling has been redesigned to be more robust. However, iR Shell 4.7 and onwards can only connect to the new nethostfs PC server v2.1. Make sure you’ve updated the nethostfs PC server.
  • Enhance UMD/ISO game compatibility via nethostfs MAX mode. Most previous failed games will probably work.
  • Usbhostfs & nethostfs host redirection under XMB has returned.
  • The Adhoc PC connection for nethostfs was broken since fw 3.71. This feature has been brought back for PSP Phat.
  • Enhance the HTML Plugin (by Dark_AleX) to allow direct launching of flash games with extension SWF.

iR Shell for Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 — Soon…

greg | November 9, 2008

If you have recently sacrificed AhMan’s iR Shell for Dark_AleX’s latest custom firmware; or perhaps your situation is reversed, you’ve relinquished the installation of 5.00 M33 because the dopest shell to date is really where it’s at… Well then, whatever the case, you’ll be pleased to know a new iR Shell public version is nearing release.

iR Shell 3.9 screen shot

Allow me to quote AhMan himself –

Just to let you know I’ll be releasing another iR Shell public release for 5.00M33. It will have all the SE features, including infrared remote learning. Currently, irshell.org is being re-designed and re-worked by some of the private forum members. Once the site is completed, the public release will be out.

iR Shell Icon Of course infrared learning will only be available to PSP Fat owners. Good looking out, AhMan.
