Why are white outlines appearing around my theme icons?

I'm making a custom theme using the official Sony theme creator but whenever I apply my theme to my PSP, white outlines appear around the icons unless they are in a linear shape such as a square or rectangle. I'm assuming the theme creator simply cant handle complex shapes but is there any way around this?
