Learn how to hack R4300 machine code. N64 games are a good place to start.
Learn about the encryptions and protections used on the PSP. Learn the hardware and kernel inside and out. You'll probably want to know C and C++ as well. The reason there's no "beginner's guide to creating firmware hacks" is that creating firmware hacks is not something a beginner can do. It's extremely complicated and requires very intimate knowledge of computers at the lowest levels. Find a Mario 64 ROM and an N64 debugger for your PC, or a real Mario 64 cartridge and a Gameshark Pro that still works. See if you can figure out how to create an infinite lives hack. Move on to more complex hacks. Start learning how to change the game program (i.e. the actual machine code instead of just the variables). Make some insane hacks that involve a couple hundred lines of assembly. When you can pick up a game whose innards you've never looked at before, and patch its program to do pretty much whatever you want, then you know enough R4300 ASM to move on to PSP. Learn how to code for PSP in C and C++. Learn the kernel API. Write some plugins that patch the kernel. Maybe write a cheat engine. Patch some games the same way you did on N64. Once you're quite comfortable with that, learn about the inner workings of the PSP. The hardware, the boot process, the encryptions, the filesystem, the guts of the kernel. By this point it should be clear how to proceed. You still have quite a bit of work ahead. This will take you a LONG time to learn. Good luck, have fun. You'll pick up all sorts of useful skills in the process. (I recommend N64 games because the processor is extremely similar to the PSP. Both are MIPS R4000-series. This is why the N64 emulator manages as well as it does.)

I 2nd what Brick said. You cant just come along and think you can make cfw exploits and hacks and mod the ofw's. There is lots and lots of learning and crap loads of time involved! But do follow what HyperHacker said, it is very useful to start off like that

Hey pspnoobmod, how come sometimes you are in the programmer's group then sometimes you are a senior member then sometimes you are in the mod group and sometimes you have a million reputation.
How are you hacking into the site and what tools do you use and what programming code do you use to hack into the forums. You aren't in trouble, I'm just curious as to how you do it
