![]() Hmm, seems alright, although I prefer the standard XMB. ---- No, but seriously, I can see the potential this shell has - I just generally prefer the standard XMB from what I've seen so far.

I'm planning an XMB-style theme for the next version.

I did take a short break to work on some other projects, but I'm back at it now, at least for the moment. I just implemented caching for fonts and vertices; load time is noticeably less now, especially for the Zelda skin.
(The processed/decompressed data is dumped to disk when it's loaded, so future startups don't have to do it again if the file hasn't been modified.)It should speed up even more once the scripts themselves can be cached, as I suspect parsing them takes a fair bit of time. My aim is to get it starting up almost instantly. (As long as you're not using a skin that loads like 9001 images, that's going to take a while no matter what. :p) Does this work properly with CFW Folder Blocker, or does it block access to the apps? I can probably fix that if it does (in fact, the fix would be a bonus side effect of something I'll probably have to do anyway), but I haven't tried it yet. (I don't have any UMD games :p SNES is enough for me. Still got a ton of epic RPGs to beat.) BTW, in case anyone's been playing with the scripts, be aware of some breaking changes for the next version: -SoundEffect and MP3 functions are replaced with Sound, that works with both, so you don't have to worry about which type it is. The interface is the same, just the function names have changed. -LoadImage takes an extra parameter. -Image_TrySwizzleToVRAM is removed (replaced by the extra parameter in LoadImage). -If you add some vertices to a buffer, and then load a file into that buffer, the ones you added before will be wiped out. Like I said, I'll avoid breaking changes as much as possible once the API is finalized. (I think everyone's been holding off for that anyway. :p)

Yeah, I'm pretty excited for a complete version of this. What would be crazy awesome is if you made that 3D environment and made it so that you could start application by pressing switches or entering doors or giving the user a gun and being able to enter rooms that represent folders or the memory stick or something and being able to shoot the applications that are running around in order to start them.
I would crap myself with glee if you released something like this. |
