where did i went wrong with this...? :)
The size thing is normal since we are using Uncompressed RGB/YCbCr and Full Processing Mode.

What you can do to reduce the size the size besides saving it as old avi format (which sometimes it does not make any reduction in size compared to normal avi) is to change from Full Processing Mode to either Normal or Fast Processing Mode. I changed it to Normal Processing Mode and it reduced the output size to half of what Full processing Mode did.

This option is obviously under the Video tab.

I have not experienced any problems with saving the file and i dont know why you are having that problem because i am not that involved with the troubleshooting of VirtualDub, i just use it as a codec.

What you can do is to try the latest but experimental VirtualDub which has the same interface
her is the experimental release http://sourceforge.net/project/downl...or=superb-west

or you can try another pmf file and see if you get the same results, maybe your input pmf file is the problem.

BTW...
@Sid3@rm
are you still thinking about making that Video tutorial?

Follow one of the gameboot tutorials.

The only differences between a gameboot and a CIntro are that CIntros do not have a frame limit, and they must have an audio stream to work.

Since these are raw H264 streams and the MP4 container is the most popular format for H264 video, is there a way to make mencoder just output it straight into a MP4 file?

Also, is there any way whatsoever to extract the audio from a pmf file? I tried -dumpaudio but the resulting file, even though the filesize looks perfect, I have been completely unable to play it in anything.

I'm trying to encode the intros from DJ Max Portable 1 and 2 and the exracted video looks perfect so id really prefer to just put it in a container instead of re-encode it, or sample the audio instead of using it directly.

To extract the audio, this is what Z33 has to say:

And to convert that at3-data, dumped from the gameboot.pmf with mplayer, into recognizable format I just hexedited it by hand. The sound in pmf's has extra data in every atrac-datablock that has to be removed and then a header for the file has to be built which contains that removed information. A separate tool for that is easy to build.

So to decode the sound you'd have to:

1. Demux the pmf with mplayer.
2. Convert the soundfile to recognizable at3-format.
3. Unpack the at3-file with the PSP.
as for the mp4 output, I really don't know because I am not that into mencoder but you can try to alter the command sentence mencoder.exe stream.dump -ovc raw -noskip -ofps 29.97 -o done.avi in a way that fits the propertes of the .pm4 format.

I would understand that you want this so that it can go straight into your psp, butwith the current issue of the audio, it does not make that much sense. I prefer avi for pc use.

Actually, I want it for PC use. Pcs can play MP4 files just fine too, but its just that while H264 can work in an AVI, its not really designed for it, MP4 is.

As for getting the audiostream to work, I understand what he is saying, but what are the values I need to look for to delete and add? Is there any guide or did he say anything about the structure of an AT3 file (spcifically the headers and footers) so that I can accomplish this?

And finally, any idea about what am I to do about DJ Max Portable 2? Mplayer has a problem extracting the video, near the very end theres a lot of corruption. It appears to be an issue with mplayer itself rather than the game's video file because that PMFPlay decoder was able to play it fine. The problem with PMFPlay is that it appears to use an ilegally hacked version of the Elecard MPEG2 decoder, which results in a very annoying and unremovable logo to appear on the top-left corner of the video, even if I try to encode it.

here is z33's original thread:
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=62185
but there is nothing that you can use, howver you can directly ask z33 by posting there, he does answer.

You say mplayer could be the problem, so the obvious thing is to look for another more previous or latest release.

You mean the game or mplayer?

Because I tried an older version of mplayer, exact same thing happened.
