[TUTORIAL] noob friendly way to upgrade to higher custom firmware

5.00m33-6
run these installers from with 3.xx kernal mode set.(hold R trigger when starting psp to enter recovery menu, enter config, set game homebrew kernal to 3.xx)

-first download this file

-extract it

-after extracting it, u will get a 5.00 official firmware eboot.

-rename it as 500.PBP

-then download this link below

-extract it

-u will get a update folder

-put the 500.PBP in that update folder

-connect ur psp to pc via usb cable or card reader

-put the update folder in PSP/GAME/

-run it from the xmb, thats all

Hello. I just want to double check to see if I get the steps correctly.
My PSP is currently at 3.80 OFW. I have downloaded 3.80 m33-1,-2,-3,-4, OFW 5.00, 5.00 M33-1,-2,-3,-4,-6, Rain's MMS UltraLite for 3.80-5 and 5.00-4.

1. I create 3.80 CFW using Rain's MMS UltraLite 3.80-5
2. I install the CFW onto the PSP with the help of a pandora battery
3. I follow the Flash670's steps #3-7
3a. Download OFW 5.00 and rename it 500.PBP and put it into UPDATE directory
4. Move UPDATE folder to the path ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE
5. Update (hold L+Triangle =skip battery charge option)
6. Download 5.00 M33-6, and Update.

For #6 - Do I place M33-6 in the PSP/Game/Update folder?

Should I install 5.00 OFW first and then go CFW instead? If so, where do I put the 5.00.pbp (ofw) to upgrade from OFW 3.80 to 5.00?
Or should I just stick with my steps above?

Sorry for my noobish questions.

If u have a pandora battery, u can go directly from OFW 3.80 to 5.00M33 .. create a mms using psp grader and use the pandora along with mms to upgrade to 5.00M33.. here is a tutorial:

I'm a complete NoOb, how do I do the below?

MAKE SURE TO SET THE KERNAL TO 3.XX/4.XX OR IT WILL FREEZE THE UPDATE AND POSSIBLY BRICK
(unless your upgrading to 3.52M33 in which kernal must be set to 1.5)

I anyone is feeling generous and has the time I am completely useless at upgrading my 1000 series PSP I am operating the 3.40 OE-A and want to play the newer games like Gran Turismo etc

Please Advise

P.S Oh and yeah I realise I'm going to get stick for being such a nOob too!! Thx!

first upgrade to 5.00M33-6 using this tutorial:

Newer games requiring ofw 5.55+ has to be patched using yoshiro's decryptor. check out the 4th video in this tutorial to patch games like GT etc:

I still can't work out how to upgrade even with this tutorial!!!!

Right I have backed up my save game data etc and formated the memory stick and restored factory settings I have no update folder on my memory stick I have the 3.52 update downloaded ready to go but where do I put it?

I'm operating a Phat PSP with 3.40 OE-A Software

Plus the links to the rapidshare updates dont work where do i get the update from??

Any answers would be most gratefully recieved

use recovery flasher v1.6 to jump to 5.00m33-6

Hi everyone! Am just a newbie here.My PSP is currently running v5.00 m33. But have no idea whether it is M33-1 or M33-2. How do I upgrade to M33-3 or later firmware? Do I have to follow the same instructions as above? Thanks in advance.

follow these steps:
Step 6. After the update has completed, download the 5.00M33-6 patch here = http://www.psphero.com/download/m33_500_u6.rar
Step 7. Run the update (hold L + triangle if you wish to skip the 78% battery charge option)
