[TUTORIAL] noob friendly way to upgrade to higher custom firmware

i have used Chilly Willy Keycleaner ...

but get this message when i got install the new firmware

some of your idstorage keys have not the correct values, probably due to a downgrader. In order to continue. press X to restore the correct values, press r to exit

so i hit X to restore and R is just exiting ... and the update fails ...

any more suggestions

hmmm, in that case update to ofw 5.03 and then use this tutorial to install 5.00M33

hi ppl. i upgraded from 3.90 m33-3 to 5.50 gen-d2 and now i can play new games without patching... but......... i can't charge my psp using the ac adaptor!

i think i can charge using usb but.... HELPPPPP with the ac pls!

You can test to see if your AC adapter is broken by trying to charge another PSP. If it works on another PSP then there is something wrong with the PSP, try formatting flash1 in Recovery Menu.

ok total newb here.....i mean NOOB....ok...my psp is a 1001 i am running cfw on it right now version 5.00 m33-6 i would like to upgrade to the latest so i guess my question is where do i start....do the files for a 3000 work on the 1001....do i need 1000 or 1001 specific files...im so lost at the moment i dont know where to start.....your help is much appreciated

I have just had my psp flashed by a fella he put 3.71 m33-2 on, reading what everyone has put on her and the fact that i cant get fifa 10 and a few other games to work recently, i am just getting a black screen and then ( game unable to load). That i am running very old firmare iam i right in thinking this????, also sorry about this how do i find out if mine is 2000 or 3000 think that is what i have seen all i know it is a psp slimline hahahaha

Update to 5.00 m33-6 here ( or through my guide below ) then update to 5.50 gen-d2 here:

follow step a if updating to 5.00 m33-6 , if you already updated then start from step b then step c

to check what psp u have look at the serial number located on the bottom of the psp see the bar code thingy ...the last 4 digits should reed 1000, 1001, 2000 3000 ect for example mine reads PP11xxxxxx-psp1001
