Basically I am going to upgrade my brothers CFW to the latest (5.00m33-6 isn't it?)

The PSP has 3.80 M33-5 cfw on there already and is running Kernel 3.80. By reading the 1st page on this thread I think I have to do the following:

*Upgrading to 5.00M33-6
Step 1. Download the 5.00 official sony update here = http://www.psphero.com/download/official_500.rar
Step 2. Download the 5.00M33 update here = http://www.psphero.com/download/m33_500.rar
Step 3. Rename the official 5.00 update as 500.PBP and place it in the UPDATE folder
Step 4. Place the UPDATE folder into your GAME folder (ms0:/PSP/GAME)
Step 5. Run the update [to skip the (your psp must be atleast 78%) hold L + the triangle button while the update loads]
Step 6. After the update has completed, download the 5.00M33-6 patch here = http://www.psphero.com/download/m33_500_u6.rar
Step 7. Run the update (hold L + triangle if you wish to skip the 78% battery charge option)

Is this all I have to do? Do I have to download any other patches or is there anything I need to know before I start? I think there might be one or two more questions I need to ask before I star this about where I am placing the updates etc but I am going to wait to read the readme docs before I properly start.

if thats too difficult to follow... try using my tutorial

5.00m33-6
run these installers from with 3.xx kernal mode set.(hold R trigger when starting psp to enter recovery menu, enter config, set game homebrew kernal to 3.xx)

-first download this file

http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1568

-extract it

-after extracting it, u will get a 5.00 official firmware eboot.

-rename it as 500.PBP

-then download this link below

http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1646

-extract it

-u will get a update folder

-put the 500.PBP in that update folder

-connect ur psp to pc via usb cable or card reader

-put the update folder in PSP/GAME/

-run it from the xmb, thats all

cool thanks for that! when I try to run a different kernel it only comes up with 3.80 and 1.50, by 3.xx do you mean 3.80 (there are different versions such as 3.70 etc so people chose to put xx to make it relevent to the person who is reading that article but could have one of the many different versions) or is there a kernel 3.xx that I need to get the patch for?

for u... 3.xx means 3.80 ... so just keep the kernal as 3.xx

I at present already have a customer firmware its on 4.01 M33-2 (fat psp) I just wanted to know which one is the most recent one which follows this please. Once I know which one it is I should be right to find the tutorial myself to update it.Thanks for you help in advance. Cheers!

I have a slim 2002 psp with CFW 5.00 m33-3, I would like to know how to update it the latest version, and what the benefits of doing it are.

Well upgrading to 5.00 M33-6 guarantees the latest stability for the 5.00 M33 custom firmware. However, if you need to play the newer games such as Need For Speed : Shift, Dissidia or Soul Calibur, 5.50 GEN-A is your latest bet.

For 5.00 M33-6, just download this file, extract it and move the UPDATE folder to /PSP/GAME and overwrite any old existing files.

Hey everyone. I have CFW 5.00 M33-3 PSP 1001 and know that it is up to 5.00 M33-6. Can I upgrade to to version 5.5 Gen-B or is that limited to only certain PSP models?

Thanks

No, you can upgrade to 5.50 GEN just fine. Just remember to reboot into recovery (Hold R while booting), go to Configuration and down to Game Folder homebrew. Make sure that i says Game folder homebrew (5.xx kernel). If not, press X to change it.

From there, exit and upgrade in this order:

5.50 GEN-A > 5.50 GEN-B > 5.50 GEN-B2.

Thanks for the info. I was able to get it upgraded with no problems.
