Default [Tutorial] Flash CFW To Any PSP Slim or Fat [PSP Grader v008]

PSP Grader Tutorial - Flash CFW To Any Hackable PSP [Phat or Slim]

This tutorial will teach you how to flash a Slim PSP or Phat PSP that has any official firmware (except Late Model slims that came new with 4.01) with 5.00 M33-4 Custom Firmware. PSP Grader was made by Klutsh & RainMotorsports. This is a noob friendly guide.

Requirements
- A PSP (Slim or Phat) and USB Cable or a Card Reader
- A Pandora's Battery (Softmod, Hardmod, Datel Tool, etc.) Need a pandora? Cheapest & reliable place is DealExtreme
- A Memory Stick Pro Duo [64mb - 16gb]
- PSP Grader v008 - Download
- Sony 5.00 Official Update eBoot (Can be downloaded from PSP Grader instead) - Download

How To

Step 1) Extract PSP Grader from the zip file (Windows XP and newer can open zips or use Winzip, WinRAR, 7zip to open it.)

Step 2) Run PSP Grader, If you have not already downloaded the Official 5.00 eBoot you can do so using the download button. If you already have the eBoot then load it by clicking on "Load 5.00 Official eBoot"

Step 3) Connect your psp via the usb cable and enter usb mode from the xmb or connect your memory card reader and insert the memory card. Be aware that if you select format memory stick, your memory stick will be erased.

Step 4) If you used a psp it should be recognized and the drive letter selected. If it does not automatically find it or you used a card reader, simply chose the drive letter of the PSP or Memory Stick. Now click "Create Pandora Stick" and wait for the process to finish.

Step 5) Your Memory stick is now ready, unplug the PSP or remove the memory stick from the card reader and put it in the psp. Remove the battery and insert the Pandora's Battery whilst holding the L shoulder button on the PSP. Once the menu has loaded on the PSP simply press the X button. Wait. After around 1 - 3 minutes the Flash shall be done, press X to shutdown the psp, it is now safe to remove the pandora battery.

[Note] It is very important to just wait and not switch off the PSP or remove the Memory Stick or Pandora's Battery, it could result in a brick if you do not wait.

Now you have Custom FW 5.00 M33-4 on your PSP. Your done you may format your memory stick if you wish and at anytime update to 5.00 M33-6.

Thanks to Klutsh & RainMotorsports for PSP Grader 8. If you can't find me here for help and can't wait any longer then look me up @ my site muppet-modding.com

OK I have 2 questions and/or concerns:

1. I asked someone on this forum if using this method would work successfully on a phat PSP ver. 2.50 with a ta-082 mobo? That individual replied, "Yes." Well, I tried it on a friend's Phat PSP and indeed, it DID work. But what didn't work were the ISOs I attempted to play off of a 4GB Memory Stick. Every time I tried to boot an ISO (which was shown normally in the menu) I received an error message stating that it could not be played. Any ideas?

2. Secondly, this brings my to my next question. Does anyone have a somewhat firm list of compatible PSP models that are compatible with this method? Obviously the model mentioned from my first question didn't have quite the FULL functionality I expected. And I've also been hearing newer PSPs aren't exactly full-proof either. Could someone provide maybe a list or a range to help us all out as far which models work and which ones don't?

Thank you.

This tool worked good for me. I put the 4.01 firmware on my slim. Now, I'm thinking about moving up to 5.01. I just have to figure out how to upgrade.

I noticed a program called PSP Pandora Deluxe that looks like it is similar to psp grader. Do they do the same thing, just one has some additional things it can install?

I also had one other question. This guide has you downloading a PSP Firmware Update file. What is the difference between that and the files in the custom firmware section? The ones in the custom firmware section are quite small compared to the PSP Update files.
