Hello everyone.
New to whole PSP hacking thing.
Just got my first PSP (2004). I was wondering if I can somehow hack it.
In system software is simply says "Version 5.50" and I've read in few places that this Firmware is not hackable (yet).
BUT I've also read that you can somehow downgrade firmware (?).

Also, this thread somehow mentions 5.50, but I have no idea what it is really about

Anyone care to explain all this stuff to me? Would be thankful.

did u update it to 5.50 or it came with 5.50 out of the box?
If it came with 5.50 = Not hackable at the moment
If it came with firmware below 4.01 = can be hacked with pandora battery+mms

You only need a MMS if you are hacking your PSP via Pandora.

Default Another day, another noob (my apologies)

Hello, I'm completely new to the business of modding and I've been reading around a fair bit but I still can't seem to get an idea of what exactly can and can't be done with my PSP as of now. I have a 3000 which I bought last year, with 5.03 firmware. So I'm wondering, is it still the case that I can only temporarily install CFW?

Also, I bought a game recently which requires version 5.55. Do newer versions of the CFW tend to get released fairly regularly or is it unpredictable?

Cheers

Luckily you still have 5.03 firmware, which means you can use ChickHEN. Use this guide and it will show you how to use ChickHEN and CFE so you'll be able to play backup games, homebrew, emulators, etc. It won't be fully hacked though, and you won't be able to play newer games, ie 5.55 required games.
Custom firmwares are not released very often, and there is no news of a 6.00 custom firmware to be released at all.
