The new icon is probably a result of homebrew.. Also, it might be from the recovery folder.

Demonchild i idi not ask how to do it, i can follow your guide for that.

i was asking do i need to or could i just keep it as it is and it will still work in the future regardless of what FW I am owngrading from(or will it stop working when sony bring out 4.00FW Ect.)

And what about the bit DAX quoted?

I have used it to downgrade quite a few psps slim and fat to m33 3.71-2 with no probs.

I have kept the set to one side for future if needed, so will the set work with all future FW or will I have to make the DCv4. As I know it works I did not want try to make another one and run in to problems just for the sake of making the latest one, I can always upgrade after to m33 380 Ect.

Also the bit you put in the guide on page 1 from DAX, does that just apply to m33 3.80 or does it apply to all unbricking?

Cheers...
You will have to get DCv4 and rerun the installer. On your Magic Stick, download the 3.40, and 3.80 UPDATES. Extract, and rename to '380.PBP' and '340.PBP' respectively. Move them to the root of your MS.

Delete '371.PBP'. You won't be needing it anymore.

Now, from DCv4, extract it to X:/PSP/GAME.

Launch from the 2xx/3xx PSP. Installation is the same, and it is somewhat faster..

When it is done, just test it to make sure it have options for 3.80 M33, and 3.80 ;)

It's an honest mistake that I didn't pick up. About the part you quoted, if your XMB semi-bricks when loading, yes you do. Howeveer, on 3.80 M33-5, Step 5 isn't necessary as on 3.80 M33 firmwares, the flash1 directories are created, therefore killing the BSOD. As with all downgraders that mess with flash0 and flash1, you want to start off with fresh settings..

When it loads, go right to Extnds. Press X and go down to Pandora. Press X, and check your battery. If it reads anything but 0xFFFFFFFF, your battery is not Pandora. Just choose the option to make Pandora...
First, thanks for the reply and help. I dl that enabled it but now the buttons dont bring the menu up at all. If I enable the vsh menu I can bring that up but not this recovery menu. What's going on?
Make sure no other plugins for the [VSH] are activated. The alternative vshMenu for 3.80 M33 will kill recovery, and CFE 1.9.2 will interfre with some functions..

How do I go about making the Pandora MS without a HEN PSP? Can I go directly to using DCv4 or do I have to use one of the UPMS utilities first?

Also, do I want to do a NAND dump or is there anything I should back up for protection against potential bricking in the future?

Thank you
Use a card reader to transfer the files over. Here's a full guide on how to make one without a HEN PSP.

Here are the stuff that you need for DCv3..

http://www.mediafire.com/?8edtfg595jz

Download this and extract to your Desktop.. Move the 'msinst' and 'mspformat' folder to C:/

2)Backup all data on your MS. You will have to reformat it. So if you care about the stuff on that big 4 gig, you better back it up..

3)Open command prompt. Go to Start and then Run. Type 'cmd'.

Note: Dont type the quotes. Just type the bold.

4)When it comes up, type 'cd C:\mspformat'

5)Then type 'mspformat.exe X'

Note: X: is the letter of your MS. Put your PSP in USB Mode, and it should be the next available drive.

6)CMD will warn that you will format your drive and everything will be deleted. Press y and press enter. It will begin to format your MS.

Hint: It will say this..
Code:
C:\mspformat>mspformat.exe X
You are about to format the drive X.
All data will be lost. Do you want to continue? [Y]
When it finished, you will get a friendly message:

Drive successfully formatted, and partition moved.

7) Disconnect USB Mode on the PSP, and take out the MS. Turn off your PSP. (Completely, not Sleep Mode)

8)Insert the MS back in, and reboot. Activate USB Mode.

9)Now, go back to your desktop and go in the 'Despertar v3' folder.

10) Copy all of these files/folders to the root of your MS.

11)Now, close cmd prompt and relaunch it.

12)Type this:

'cd C:\msinst'.

13)Then this:

msinst J msipl.bin

14)Command Prompt will say this now:

Code:
C:\msinst>msinst J msipl.bin
PSP MS IPL Installer
Load IPL code msipl.bin
241664 bytes(59 block) readed

Target DRIVE is 7
Check partation Sector
boot status 0x80
start head 0x05
start sec/cyl 0x0004
partation type 0x06
last
 head 0x0F
last sec/cyl 0xB7E0
abs sector 0x00000810
ttl sector 0x000767F0
signature 0xAA55
Check BPB Sector
signature AA55
Check free reserved sector:OK
Write ABS Sector 0x10 to 0x1E7
Are You Sure ?[Y]
15)Press Y and hit enter.
16)When it finished, it will say this:

'Write MS BOOT COD'

17)After this, you're done. Shutdown your PSP, and take out MS.

18)Insert the Magic Stick, and the Pandora Battery.
19)The PSP will autoboot into the DCv3 menu.

20)You will see 4 options. Press []. This is to back up your nand.
(In case your brick. It takes 66 MB)

21)When it is done, your PSP will shutdown. Just reboot it.

22)When you get back to the menu, press X to install 3.71 M33-2.

23)You will see a bunch of lines scroll down. Don't worry. Normal.
My uncle make a joke saying that he never knew there was cmd
on a
PSP...

24)Anyways, when it is done, it will tell you to press X to shutdown.
Do so. When it goes out, take out the PB, and insert the regular Slim battery.

25)You should boot successfully to the XMB. From there, you are in the clear.

26)Welcome to 3.71 M33-2 and your games.
Follow this in the correct order and you will have your Magic Stick.

The nand image basically a copy of your firmware, and your IDStorage keys. If your PSP is at a full brick, this can be a way of restoring it.. However, you should back it up, and just save it.

Once you are done, upgrade to 3.71 M33-4.

WHat he said.

However, it will write a default serial back so make sure you back it up first.

Do these steps 4-7 always have to be done whenever you upgrade to custom firmware using the pandora battery or only if the XMB freezes or does the XMB always freeze? Because I didn't have to do it when I used the pandora battery to get my PSP Slim to 3.60 M33 when it first came out (the old blind installation). Do you have to do this on both Fat and Slim or is it only required on Slim? Does it have to be done on 3.71 M33? You said in an earlier post that you don't get the BSOD error with 3.80 M33 but do you still have to format flash1 and reset settings? Thanks

You always have to do this if you upgrade your PSP via Despertar Cementerio. (And if it freezes at the XMB when booting) Even though the Pandora to 3.60 M33 was using a Pandora Battery, you didn't have to erase your settings since all it did was flash the M33 modules..

You have to do 4-7 on any PSP. And you only get the BSOD error on 3.71 M33. And yes, you have to format flash1 even on 3.80 M33.

Thank You very much Demonchild for this excellent tutorial! I took my Phat PSP @ cfw 3.71-2 to create the Pandora Battery and Memorystick. Then I successfully hacked a White StarWars Slim PSP @ ofw 3.72 to cfw 3.80-5, then I updated my Phat to cfw 3.80-5 also.

Now, just for anybody who got stuck like I did when trying to return your Phat battery back to normal mode. As you have found out every time you stick the PB in your PSP it auto boots. How I got around this was with the battery out plug the charger in and boot the PSP. Launch pan3xxr3a from the xmb, then insert your PB and finally press [] (square) to return the battery to normal. It might be a good idea to add this or what ever way is preferred to the tutorial for us slow peeps! Thanks again!

Thanks Demonchild! One thing I noticed you missed in your guide was running "Pandora Installer for 3.xx -R3-" before running Despertar del Cementerio and selecting "X to install 1.50 firmware, containing Pandora, to the memory stick". I always thought you had to do this when making MMS....or don't you need to do it?
