*UPDATE* 12/18/08 - Guide updated for DC8.
Now, this is for all the people who want to install custom firmware on their brand new Slim, and for those having a hard time installing DC.. Asking how to get CFW is a question that gets too much around here. So, here is just a guide so you know what to do.

Pick these up at your local download spot

Despertar Cementerio v8
5.00 UPDATE

You can run Despertar Cementerio (unbricker, not the installer) on any Phat or Slim PSP that DOES NOT HAVE THE TA-088V3 MOTHERBOARD INSIDE!!! THIS ALSO DOES NOT WORK WITH THE PSP-3000 SERIES.

However, the installer and this guide will require you to have a PSP that has at least 3.03 OE installed. (From DC6 on, this is noted in the readme. It may work on 2.xx HEN, and custom firmwares but that's up to you to find out) Also, you will need a Pandora battery.

1)This might require you to repartition your MS if using a fresh formatted one. If it does, you will have to follow the guide at the end of this one that will use Hellcat's Pandora Installer to format your MS. (Just how the tutorial was from DCv3-DCv5)

2)Extract Despertar Cementerio, and move the 'DC8' folder to X:/PSP/GAME.

3)Extract the 5.00 update and rename it to '500.PBP'. Place it on the root of your MS.

4)Disable USB Mode. If you use a CTF/PTF, go to Settings > Theme Settings > Theme > Original. Turn it off or the installer wont load for you.

5)Launch Despertar Cementerio from Game > Memory Stick.

6)Once it loads, you will have to press X to begin installation.

7)Everything shall go fine. You will see a Sony like updater before you but its way more wicked and you have plugins enabled ^_^.

8a) If you are using TimeMachine you will be prompted to press a button at the end of install so you can launch DCv8. Any button that doesn't boot anything else is good. (I use D-pad up). Hold whatever button you want to until the installer reads it and carries on with installation.

8b) If the install stops at 99%, writing the DC ipl loader, you will have to reformat/repartition your stick, and re-do the installation. (Guide is at the end)

9)*SKIP THIS STEP IF YOU HAVE A PANDORA BATTERY* (Go to the guide below if you don't have one and/or need to convert)

Using this

DCv8 upgrades your PSP to 5.00 M33-4 from any previous firmware version. This can also be used an unbricker.. Like mentioned before, this will not work on TA-088v3 Slims, or PSP-3000s. Pandora is blocked completely.

1)To start Despertar Cementerio, insert your Pandora Battery, and Magic Stick. It should auto-boot. (If using DCv6 + TimeMachine, hold the button assigned for Despertar Cementerio)

2)Once the menu boots, you will be greeted with a menu with options:

-Install 5.00 M33 - Installs 5.00 M33-4
Install 5.00 OFW - Installs 5.00 OFW
-NAND operations - Dump/restore NANDS, IDStorage Options (See end of guide)
-Hardware Info - Hardware Info such as motherboard, tachyon, etc.
-Test M33 - Boot into a "live" version of 5.00 M33-4 for whatever
-Shutdown - Self-explanatory
-Reboot Device - A kick to the backside of your PSP

3)After unbricking, if your PSP appears bricked, just wait. It is rebuilding flash1.

***POST INSTALL***

4)If you are a Phat user, download your respective 1.50 kernel addon.
1.50 Kernel Addon for 5.00 M33
and the 1.50 UPDATE This step is optional, but if you want to play 1.50 homebrew, you will need it.

Quote:
Drag and drop the '150k_installer' folder to the directory at X:/PSP/GAME4xx. Rename the 1.50 UPDATE to '150.PBP' and place it on the root of your memory stick. Disable USB Mode, and execute from GAME>MemoryStick. Read what's needed and press X to install.
5)If you are unbricking a PSP that has downloaded content from the Playstation Network, you will have to do the following to make it work again:

to buy psn games until the user doesn't delete from flash2 the act.dat of the other psp. (act.dat files are unique for each psp).

Note that act.dat will be restored to the moment of the MS creation.
If you have bought other PSN game later, the act.dat file may have changed and if you restore the old one, you may loose the latest bought game.
Backup flash2:/act.dat each time after you buy something from the PSN!

Note: After doing this section, you can also create the DC install from here as well.

1)Extract the Pandora Installer, and move the 'pan3xx' folder to X:/PSP/GAME. Launch it from the XMB.

1)Extract the 1.50 EBOOT to the root of your MS. Rename it to 'UPDATE.PBP'. This is necessary. If you don't do this step, Hellcat's Installer will fail to work for you..

2)When it loads, go down to 'Memstick and MS-IPL options''.

3)Then go to Repartition and format MemStick (DESTRUCTIVE!)

4)Acknowledge the warning if any, and repartition the MS. When done, shutdown and reboot, and go to install DCv8.

5)If you need to convert a Pandora Battery, you need to have a TA-085v1 Slim or a Phat. If you have a TA-085v2, or any of the TA-088s, you cannot softmod the battery. Launch the installer, and go to 'Battery Options', and then go to 'Dump battery serial to file'. Afterwards, go to 'Make Battery Pandora'. Once done, exit, and you will have a working Magic Stick and a Pandora Battery.

Spoiler:

ID Storage Options were introduced in DC7, and has the ability to restore some ids keys, change your region, as well as fix your MAC address by retrieving it from the WiFi board or by faking one. These options by all means are dangerous, so please don't mess with them unless you really know what you're doing. Here is a brief explanation of what each will do.

NOTE: None of these options affect flash0-3 in any way.

NAND Operations > Format Lflash

Lflash basically is flash0-3. This option is to be used under two conditions:

a) When DC (any version) freezes at 'Formatting flash0, 'Formatting flash1', etc. This came up when your Lflash was corrupted. Using this causes a force format of Lflash.

b) When you need to repartition any of your flash(es) to new sizes to allow for more stuff to be stored. This option is useful for Phats that doesn't have enough space in flash0 for whatever reason. However, this option can be used to format any of those drives.

Either way you take, all data from flash0-3 will be destroyed. Backup anything you want to keep. When you select this option, the menu will ask you how you want to partition each drive. This step is optional but you can mess with it as you like. Remember to allocate enough space for flash0-2 or else you will have an incomplete firmware on your hands. If you do NOT know what you're doing, just hit next and move on.

Nand Operations > ID Storage Tools

If you choose this option, you will be prompted to select a new region for your PSP. Hit 0 if you want to see the other options.

ID Storage Tools > Create New IDStorage

This is self explanatory. This destroys your old ids keys, replaces them with new ones. However, this option cannot repair and get every single feature on your PSP working. Please refer to the readme for more information. Within this option, you can do all the other options of changing your region, and assigning a new MAC address to the system. For more info on these options, read on.

ID Storage Tools > Change Region

Destroys and recreates your ids keys to show your PSP as if it was from a different region. Only USA, Europe and Japan are selectable at this time.

ID Storage Tools > Fix MAC Address

In case your WiFi or anything is messed up due to your MAC Address not being right or you just messed this ids key up, this will fix that. How this works is by retrieving the MAC Address off the Wifi board directly. It will then import it into the system. In case your board isn't working or you are just looking for something to do, you can assign a random, but working MAC Address to your ids key. This might cause a conflict, but hey, if it works, it works. Refer to the readme for more info.

If you change your region or recreate your ids key, your PS3 as well as the PlayStation Store will recognize your PSP as something new. Only do this if you are sure you want to. You will have to re-register your PSP with your PS3, PC, as well as the PS Store. You've been warned.

Have fun and enjoy the guide.

It a good idea to have "Hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options(under Tool) unchecked (turn on extensions)

Switch kernels from 1.50 to 3.71 in recovery.

You can only run this on custom firmwares 2.71 SE and up. This will not work on official firmwares.
