So yeah, I got my PSP, the games freeze when I play them about 10 minutes in, and when they d, I have to turn my PSP off, then, I'll try and turn it back on, I have to flick the power at least 6-8 times to actually get it to work. Also, the PSP sometimes randomly turns off on me...I've tried literally everything, speeding up the CPU, turning the VSH menu off, Re-installing CFW, and anything else...I formatted my flash1, and it started to work again, everything turned on simply, and it was easy...then it would start having problems in the next 3 hours, or whenever I picked it up and played again....This PSP's starting to be a real pain in the ass, if you could help, I would REALLY appreciate it, and a better description of what I have to do would be nice... Thanks

first are using a phat psp, because this guide is strictly fat at the moment.

next just follow the numbered steps carefully and exactly.

and remeber that there are no gurantees here this method is still only in the experemental stages

Yes, I'm using PSP Phat, and secondly, I need to know how to make .img files of the flash files... I need to know more...precise directions.

1. Install your custom firmware and whatever updates that go along with it. Follow the author's instructions for this.
2. If you didn't have to already, format your flash1 and configure it to your basic liking with only your primary network.
3. Using a homebrew such as PSP Filer, backup your flash0 and flash1 into disk image files (.img) (NOT nand dumps, .bin).
4. Using a disk imaging program like WinImage, open each image and click Image>Defragment Current Image, then save the files.
5. Close WinImage, start recovery mode on your PSP, connect flash0/1, and reopen WinImage (just the program, no files now).
6. In WinImage, click Disk>Restore Virtual Hard Disk image on physical drive, select your PSP from the list, and click OK.
7. Select All Files, find your newly defragmened flash0/1 file you wish to restore, open it, and select Yes to any prompts.
8. (Optional) You may wish to redump your flash0/1 afterwards and use these redumps as your backups. I kinda recommend it.
exactly what part dont you understand? perhaps if these directions do not make sense to you, then this is not something you should be trying just yet.

if you never heard of psp filer and dont already know how to use it your going to need a tutorial just for that, if you dont have win image or something similiar your gonna have to buy it and learn the menus of that program (or what ever backup/disk imaging program you choose).

this really is for advanced users at the moment, and you should be sure that you have a pandora and magic stick handy just in case.

Sounds like you've narrowed down where you're having trouble with the process, so let me see if I can better explain.

First off, for the flash maintenance functions of PSP Filer to work right, you need to be using the original 1.5 kernel version, not the newer and still experimental 3.xx kernel version.

While in Filer, press triangle from the file/folder list and a menu should pop up. Read through the menu and you'll see towards the bottom "L: maintenance flash memory", so press the left trigger. I'm sure you can figure out what to do from that point . . .

Note: PSP Filer has a "Hacker Mode" which enables write access to flash0/1 that is activated by pressing left dpad+right trigger, but this mode doesn't need to be activated for this process. I don't recommend writing to flash0 through Filer, only reading for now. I've had a couple of serious problems with Filer not properly writing and formatting entire volumes like this, which is why I specifically said to restore it in recovery. I know, I bricked mine on the very first try restoring through Filer . . . oops.

One Problem here...you know this part?

6. In WinImage, click Disk>Restore Virtual Hard Disk image on physical drive, select your PSP from the list, and click OK.

yeah, my PSP isn't showing up on the list, nothing is showing up. What do I do?

That's odd. I have read of other people having similar problems, but I'm not familiar with the problems I've read of. You might want to search Google for similar problems.

I have run into my own similar situation though, so you might want to try this: First, from the recovery menu, connect the memory stick to the PSP, then eject it using safely remove hardware. Disable the connection in recovery, then connect flash0. See if it will detect then. It worked like this on my screwed up PSP until I managed to do this process to it, then the problem causing it cleared up. Hope this helps.
