Review: Patapon

Through my japanese skills, and a friend in Japan, I have currently gotten ahold of a copy of Patapon 2 don-chaka, or パタポン2　ドンチャカ.

Example of the new multiplayer, with 4 heroes doing a "egg crack" game for items.

It's the same old Patapon, but now with new features such as:
1. Patapon has improved AI
2. There are more customizations
3. The patapon are made and leveled up with resources, now with different branches (level branches). You can determine what type of Patapon you want now (A fast and swift one, or a slow and bulky one).
4. There are not many more escort missions God, those sucked.
5. There are heroes. There are super-powerful patapon.
6. There is multiplayer. In multiplayer, you control your heroes. You can play with up to 4 people at once on Ad-hoc. You gain rare items through multiplayer (and usually around 3-4 of them, too!
7. More of those annoying rhythm games (Bon bon booooon)


Yep, the heroes are the ones in uber-shiny armor.

It's not really original and doesn't have infrastructure, so it recieves a 4/5 from me.

パタポンは日本語のみです。英語版ありません. There is no english setting, as in Loco Roco 2 (Yes, I have that game too. And Final Fantasy Dissidia is currently in shipping.)

The Good Things about Game

* Superb art design
* Innovative rhythm-based real-time strategy gameplay
* Some varied and memorable level designs
* Plenty of loot to collect for your army
* Excellent value for money.

The Bad Things about Game

* No multiplayer support
* Replaying hunt levels gets old after a while.
