Usb charge mod problems?

I tried the usb charge mod from acidmods:

I got the wire in the right place and i didn't cross any tracks but when i plug it into the computer i get an error on my computer saying "usb power surge".

I would appreciate if anyone gives any advice or links to better tuts.

do this first
I would check my solder points make sure nothing is bridge could be causing a short
and if that is the case i would be careful not to damage your usb ports


1. have you tried a different device and do you still get the error
2. have you tried it in another pc
3.have you tried it in a different usb hub
4. do you get the error if you plug in a usb flash drive
5. does it appear to charge many does the orange light come on as if charging and your getting the error?

i checked it all, it's all fine. the orange light does not come on. do you think it could be because i only used a normal wire, just some spare wire i had lying around.
