updating help

i just got my 8gb memory stick, and i'm trying to update from 3.03 to 5.03 and then hack it, using the guide white fang posted

but when i connect to my pc i don't see any psp folders, just a couple memory stick files....what's wrong

edit: ok so i formatted my mem stick, but i don't have the update folder? i can go to psp>game>and then it's empty...
