no idea how the whole thing happened, nor why it happened.

anyone, pls help.
hello siansboy,

when you took it apart, to check the button contacts, did you take a moment to check your ribbons? (the flat cables that connect the circut boards together)

by checking them, i suggest that you lift the little locking latch, then remove the ribbon, inspect the contact points at the end for any discoloration or abnormalities, then replace the ribbon and latch down the clip. be sure to check both sides of the ribbon. (you will need to un-seat the lcd to check the back of the second ribbon)

use this tutorial when taking it apart again if you need help:
http://www.llamma.com/PSP/repair/com...isassembly.htm

this is the first ribbon to check: (in this photo the ribbon is removed and the bracket it sits in is highlighted)

and this is the other ribbon you should check:

however before you open it up again i suggest you try this as a test first:

- make sure your psp is completely off by holding the power switch for more than 5 seconds or by removing the battery
- now with the psp off hold the "R' button down as you turn on the psp, this should bring you to the recovery menu.
- please try to use the D-pad and the "x" button here, the recovery menu surpasses the XMB and will still have function when the XMB dosent if this is a software problem

so if you are able to use your d-pad in the recovery then we can rule out a hardware issue and focus on the software, if the d-pad does not work in recovery then you do have a hardware problem, this is probably the simplest way to determine whether its software or hardware

if it DID work in the recovery menu then try this:

-Download PSXChecker from here:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1644

-put your psp into recovery mode
-click toggle usb
- now plug your psp into your pc
-open your your psp to the "GAME" folder
- Now inside the game folder create a new folder and name it "RECOVERY" (case sensetive, with out the "parenthesese")
-now copy the entire contents of the psxchecker folder to the RECOVERY folder you just made.
-be sure to put the entire contents of psxchecker into the recovery folder, and be sure that you dont put into any subfolder
- the recovery folder should contain the eboot.pbp,circle.png,click.wav,lefttest.wav and etc. (the entire contents of the psxchecker folder.)
-now click "Run program at /psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp"

this will boot you directly to psx checker, (do not pass the menu, do not collect $200) from here you can run a key test that will test all your keys for you

Last you may be able to remedy this by going to the recovery menu and:
- goto configuration
- goto "use vsh menu" and switch it to disabled

post your results back in this thread and we'll move foward from there.
