Default Psp 3000

Hi All

I have to apologise for asking the same question that's no doubt been asked a million times before....

I read the PSP hacking guide and understood about different firmware levels etc.... the thing I don't know is how to tell the firmware of a unit before buying it?

For example, I am looking to buy a new boxed PSP 3000 from ebay, will I defo be able to hack it?

Thanks very much!

Oh that's a shame, should I look for a brand new 2000 or something then? Reason I want a new one is because I want it as a gift for someone.

hard to say, it all depends on when the PSP was manufactured. It needs to be at firmware <=5.03.

if its a gift, do you have to worry about whether its hackable or not?

Well it's for my girlfriend.... she's seen one that allows the playing of movies, mp3's, games etc and has told me 'I want one of those!' LOL

So I would like a brand new one to hack for her.

I'm guessing there's no way to tell except for turning the unit on? No way to tell from the box or anything like that?

Thanks again

idk why he said that, I bought mine brand new last april from gamestop, just the raw piano black which I wanted, I didn't like the bundles because they were all ugly ass silver. I remembered it was important to keep the firm ware low so I never updated it a few weeks later CFW was released.

Oh so the PSP 3000 might be a buy then? Very confusing! :-s

Well I'll try and get firmware info first by getting the sellers to check the box and barcode otherwise I guess it's hit and miss!

Thanks anyway.

ALL Phats = hackable (different ways to hack depending on current OFW)

Old 2000 releases and bundles (starwars, madden, daxter etc) = Hackable (pandora + MMS)

New 2000 and ALL 3000 RELEASES = Partially hackable (run CFW through the use of ChickHEN + GEN-B, resides in RAM)

PSPGo = Fail.

The thing is, sooner or later, someone is bound to find a way to actually install CFW on the 3000, so you can just run it until then.

it was pure luck that you bought it at that time. exploits dont come up every other week and since April, there have been quite a few firmware released already.
