Golden Sun is known for being very emulator unfriendly. Luckily Exophase is going to release a new version of gpsp soon adressing these issues (see http://gpsp-dev.blogspot.com/ ). Right now there are two things you can try:
-Check if you got the "bug free" gba_bios.bin with MD5SUM or another checksum tool. -Check the header of your ROM (just open it with notepad) and if theres is a corresponding entry in game_config.txt. Often European versions are missing, so you can try adding an entry (this made my Golden Sun 2 Spanish version run a lot smoother by adding an entry for it with the data from the US version, I havent played GS1 yet btw..) Details for all this are in the readme.txt of gpsp.

Hey I am having the same problem, I have UO gpSP kai 3.2 test 8.7 and it happens (i think this is the right type) with every water djini like sleet in the mercury lighthouse. Is there currently an emulator that will play this game correctly and what do you mean by adding it in the game txt file?
