a few questions about hacking a psp

ok, i recently got into the psp hacking (sadly after i upgraded to firmware 5.03) and i have the latest firmware. i want to hack my psp, would i only need to get a mms and a pandora battery? if i'm correct. it just downgrades the firmware, so wouldn't i have to put cfw on my psp? and how does that process work?
