Default 5.50 GEN-D update won't launch - kernel error 80020001

I have a PSP-phat on which I was running 5.00 M33-6. I tried to update to 5.50 GEN-D but all I could get was a kernel error 80020001. I disabled all plugins, even formated flash1, still the same thing.

Next I updated to GEN-B, after that I ran the GEN-B2 update, it said it finished with success but in system info it still says GEN-B. Anyway, when I run the GEN-D updater I still get that same kernel error. I've downloaded it from three different places, I've even formatted my MS, still the same thing.

I've looked at all sorts of guides and made sure all my stuff was turned off CXMB, plugins, default theme. Still no go.

Anyone got any further suggestions?

If u getting an error while manual update, u can try using the xgenupdater to install 5.50 GEN D. I think the video i gave u, uses the xgenupdater..
See if u still getting the error.

OIC, the XGEN updater is the only one I have been able to find. perhaps the manual method would work. Where do I find that?

How do you do that? all I can find is that quickupdater, which says it completes successfully .

Is there a GEN-D update that doesn't use the xgen updater?

Any more thoughts on this?

M33 updates have always worked. I got through 5.50 GEN-A up to GEN-B2, but this thing will not start.

I've tried with the game folder in 1.5 mode and 5.xx mode.
I've tried different UMD emulations, including normal with my GTA disc in.
Formatted my MS, even cleaned the contacts.
Battery is fully charged.
I've formatted flash1.
I've tried different USB ports on my Win7 computer, even tried copying the updater using my WinXP box.
I've downloaded the updater from 4 different sites, with 4 different file names, each with the same files.

The fact that the other updates installed fine, other apps and ISOs work fine, yet this one will not is annoying me.

Is there a way to manually install GEN-D without using that xgen updater?

Hi . I was running gen B2, and couldnt for the life of me update to Gen D, just kept getting a blank screen. Any way to cut a long story short, I used DC8 and pandora to downgrade to 5.00 M33-4. Make sure you have Xgen V4 on your mem stick and run it as soon as you have downgraded. Then reboot and remove pandora. Finally run GenD2 update. This should work for you my friend.

What's DC8?

I tried that Hellcat Recovery Flasher to take it back to 5.00 M33-6. It said something about flash2 and flash3 not being assigned, then it went and formatted them and assigned them. But that xgen still won't run.
