why not nimh? would be a hell lot cheaper? althought it would lose 1% or so everyday. oh but then where to find 4.2V cells, hmm, 1.3x 4 = 5.2 or 1.5x3, + resistor ?use 3300 mahs, 3 cells = 1 batt 15 cells, 5 batteries 16500 nimh, not so shabby for around 15x2.5 37.5$+ box and stuff, 45$

I made a circuit design for a LI-ION battery charger/Power supply. it is essentially the reference designs for the National Semiconductor LM3622 and LM2621 chips strung together with a connector for a LI-ION pack in between. These are surface mount devices and would require a circuit board layout.

The charger is designed to take power from the PSP charger, which is pretty good and can be plugged in world-wide, to charge an intermediate LI-ION battery pack. If the pack has been discharged to less than 2.15 or 2.7 (depending on your battery conditioning strategy), the LM3622 chip will do a low-current conditioning charge automatically. The output circuit is a 5.1Vdc SEPIC topology boost circuit that supplies up to 500mA. The output will take voltages from 1.5 to about 6 volts DC, so a wide range of battery charge status could be accommodated. It is designed specifically for one or more lithium cells in parallel. ie, dont series them up for higher voltage.

These could probably be made in qauntities of about 100 for, maybe $15 or $20 using circuit boards made through www.pcb123.com and parts purchased through, say, DigiKey. If enough people were interested, I could do a board layout.

You could also buy a 15 hour lithium pack from batterygeek or something, tear it apart, and use the charger/power supply from the pack to power your mega-battery. It would probably be a lot cheaper than making just one of these circuits.

I have a pdf file of the circuit schematic design, but I din't know how to post it. Think the moderators could help? Can I submit it as a hack? Total noob here in that respect. Alternatively, the chip datasheets are available through www.national.com, and the reference designs are on the datasheets.

Hay jjggbb

if you could email me the pdf file that would be great. i have been wanting to find a difrent charging and regluator cir but jus stuck to the pre built ones. that is where most of the cost is i mean i spent like around 40 bucks on the dc-dc converter which is now fryed, was fitting it into the case and one of the pins from the dc-dc converter pocked through the batterys plastic wraping and grounded it out hench a magor short. so that is why i have not posted anything lateley, trying to save some more mony up to build a intergated charger and regulator for cheep. i can demo boards but i would want to have a company do them if we where to sell them. i have also been looking for some one to help me with this project, jjggbb you seam to know your stuff let me know if your intersited. thanks for the positive feed back.
