Default So basically I want to improve my programing skills over this summer.

The very little that I have.

This summer I want to improve my skills by getting better acquainted with computer Hardware and Networking as well as tap the few Programming skills that I have learned my 1st 2 semesters of College. I want to read up on this still and perhaps learn a few things before getting an intern or something related in the fall.

So I want help with EBooks, sites and anything that you can shoot at me about Computer Hardware, Networking and Programming. Ultimately I want to be a Network Administrator so I really need skills in these areas.

So a few questions:

1. What Programming Language should I start with. Already know bits of Java, and C++ among a few other things.

2. What should I use for resources?

3. Anything that can help me get better in real life will also be helpful.

Thank you for your time and such.

Dude honestly i was like you a year ago, i wanted to harness my free time and become a bad ass programmer! But reading alone won't help you, if you want to get better give your self a project that you know will challenge you (game, database app, etc.)...that way you learn as you go! Its the best way to learn, Happy Coding

suggestion: for example right now i'm trying to learn how to use the Android SDK so I know how to develope apps for future google phones. You might wanna try it out too cause all of those apps are java based with a few xml templates thrown in

Hey Man,

I would suggest you read this book from front to back.
http://www.amazon.com/Accelerated-Pr.../dp/020170353X

You mentioned you already know C++, but there is always more to learn. This book covers basic, and advanced concepts. There is always more to learn with C++, but it isn't a specific language you need to know, but the principles. C++ is, as you may know, an Object Oriented Programming Language, so I suggest you learn Object Oriented Programming. The things you learn can/will be carried across to other languages.

There are coding forums out there, and although I do not frequent them, and there for don't have any on hand, they are useful. They often have little problems, then post solutions later.

All in all, good luck. In whatever approach you take.
