Most programmers get hardly any money but there is the odd ones that get quite rich from it.

It depends on what your programming....
If its a 3D game, you will absolutely 100% need math, no exceptions. You cant find the angle of of the other side of the triangle with just basic addition and subtraction. If its something simple like a GUI program thats a text editor, then you in luck, and will only need simple math skills, but then again. |

And yes, lots of things like image/sound processing, physics, and 3D graphics involve a lot of complex math. Some things you can write with only a basic understanding of math, but even then, you can use it to improve and benchmark your code.

Even things as simple as pong require a good understanding of some advanced math. (Good pong games anyway.)

If you do a programming course in college or some higher institute (at least here in Australia) they have modules built into the course itself that are moderate to advanced math.
So really to become a software developer (save self taught people) you will be forced to learn math regardless.

Hey, I'm an old member (methodMAN), just forgot all the details of my account, as I haven't posted on here in ages.
I find this thread really funny. Yes, anyone can code. I started coding when I was in high school, however the code was shit. No one is going to send their Video Game development to china. Recently, Microsoft generally won’t even have the discs manufactured there. Why? PIRACY! The other thing that is funny is the IT industry is actually really strong right now, even in the current economic state. And just so you know, comparing the average salary of Programmers from 2007 to 2008, salaries increased. Comparing 2008 to 2009, salaries have maintained stable. Also, be careful who you put down, or make fun of. Programmers have control over everything significant in your life. Your finances, you bills (even if you pay a bill in store, or by phone they are using software), your social life, your PRIVACY! They can fuck you over... Would hate for a 'bug' in code somewhere... |

I'm actually considering of getting into programming again. I've been ditching my Journalism class 6th period to go to the library and read books about coding. I remember a few years back when I had nothing to do so I'd just stay in this forum where PSDonkey was the teacher and we'd learn from him. Once I get my Desktop PC up and running I'm going to dedicate certain time to learn how to program.
Programming is the shit. You can basically do anything with it. I'm a Senior about to graduate High School and before I graduate I'm going to make a promise to myself that I'll have my car, PC, and Programming skills to put to work. I currently have a minimum wage job and it's no fun. =[
