Okay so ive been looking around and trying to find a place to help me with game development. Well thats almost impossible now sense you either get sites who are wanting you to join them at some university or sites that are full of ads and dont teach you anything. Im already pretty decent at 3d modeling. (The word decent is used a bit loosely). And im trying to find first a good programming language for games and second a place that teaches you how to program with the 3d models. Most of the time say i wanted to learn java they just give you the programming tutorials and the major basics of it. Same with C++. None help you with what im looking for. I hope you understand what i mean. Basically i dont want to wait 4 years to learn this stuff in college. I think learning it now would help with learning it later too tho. So any help is appreciated. Thanks

Firstly, good that you seem enthusiastic on this.

I'd recommend C++ for 3D applications (over Java) for a number of reasons (speed, and being more low level).

I'll mention that 3D games are probably one of the most complex types of programs that are generally written. You'll need to gain some C++ programming experience, and may need to learn some mathematical concepts.

I've seen books in libraries which have stuff on game programming - might be more beneficial for you to look there.

Hope that helps.

Yeah. I really want to learn this its just ill get frustrated at times and stop for a while then ill get back into it but when i get back into it theres no new tutorials or anything. Nothing really gives you anything to go by. I mean the C++ tutorials ive seen either teach you how to run a hello world or a calculator... a crappy one too. I dont really like books much but hey it cant hurt to give it a try right? If anyone else here knows a good place to learn C++ that starts with basics then moves up to advanced and a good place to learn how to program C++ with 3D that would be great. But like you said ill defiantly check out one of those books.

I'm surprised you're having trouble with PHP whilst knowing Javascript. Personally I find PHP much easier than Javascript...

+1 to NeHe's OpenGL tutorials, those things rock. I also have a crap load of C++ and OpenGL tutorials by gametutorials.com. I got em back when you didn't have to pay for them. Also, if you want results QUICK, without having to learn how to write 100's of lines of code just to show a triangle on a screen (eg. opengl), try the Irrlicht game engine. It's free and open source. I'm currently in school for game/sim dev, and it is indeed worth it (game dev that is lol) :mrgreenthumbsup:
