Where to buy 60GB PS3?

i recall there's a bundle with MGS4 game and that one
allows backward compatibility for a few games~

In relation to the PS2 on PS3 thing, it's Hardware. There is an actual chip needed in the PS3 to play PS2 games.

Cut out the chip, cut a bit of the production cost.


I don't see why they can't add Software emulation like the 360 does though.

they did
but they never cut the GS chip out where they took out the EE chip
to save even more money on production cost the choice was made to get rid of the GS chip as well and the end of ps2 playability not only that but it would also bump ps2 sales as well since they announced the 10 year life span

The GS chip was the last link they were using software emulation on the 80GB's but still had the GS. If the cell processor had a MIPS core instead of PPC then there would be little to no EE emulation needed and the 4 or 5 remaining SPE's could have been dedicated to graphics emulation. However with the os core being PPC and not mips the EE has to be fully emulated.

The XBOX 360 is using 3 3.2 Ghz PPC cores to emulate a 733 Mhz Coppermine Core Processor (Pentium 3?) and a shitty graphics chip. While power consuming it seemes rather pheasable. Im sure they took this into consideration when designing the unit.

I know the differences between the PS3's, I'm looking specifically for the 60gb version. If I had enough money to buy one with CASH I would have. I'm due $120 from half.com right now which isn't coming in for some reason, so I have $60 total. I'm looking for somewhere that I can use a credit card. I don't mind getting a used one, since if I get a new one and something goes wrong they will more than likely send me a non-60gb refurb anyway.

and as far as the chips go, couldn't a third party company make a solderable "mod chip" to enable ps2 games to run?
