Upside-down flag international distress call

I heard the if you hoist a flag upside down, it is an international distress call.

An upside down American flag would be obvious but there are some problems with other flags.

These flags when hoisted upside down look the same:








(Edit:The star on the flag would look upside-down, but then again that thing is miniscule)

That's why this distress signal isn't commonly used anymore.

Also some might not even recognize an inverted flag from another country even if the flag does look different inverted because they're not familiar with it.

If the only thing available is a national flag, a knot can be tied in it to signal distress.

I always assumed an upside-down flag was known as doing it wrong. Whoops.

Only 3 would be the same. France, Italy, Belgium would have their colors reversed, while Cuba would have the arrow in a different direction.

Technically Iceland's would change as well.

thats if u had them held them by the opposite side. flags only have the holes on one side to hold it so they can only be right side up or upside down not backwards
