I heard the if you hoist a flag upside down, it is an international distress call.
An upside down American flag would be obvious but there are some problems with other flags. These flags when hoisted upside down look the same:

thats if u had them held them by the opposite side. flags only have the holes on one side to hold it so they can only be right side up or upside down not backwards
