Default The power of technology!

Well, I found this pretty amazing.

My school decided to go on strike for 48 hours, this was two days ago. Last night they decided they wanted to extend it 24 hours more (to cover today), so they started getting the message out.
They started with sending messages on Facebook, Twitter, Messenger programs (WLM, AIM, etc.), and text messages.
It started at 6:30, and by 7:00 I had gotten a couple of messages on Facebook, two phone calls, three text messages and almost half the people I know telling me over WLM.
Sadly, I was studying and I was afraid that they wouldn't pass the strike extension, so I kept studying. (Chemistry, my worst subject.)

Then I got a message from someone linking to www.qik.com, which, in case you didn't know, is a site that lets you stream live video. Someone was streaming the conference.

They needed to get over 1300 people to approve the extension (since that's approximately 10% of the entire College), according to their numbers, they easily got over 2,000 people. (Some people saying they got over 3,000, but I wasn't there, so I can't say what number is true.)

A little under 12 hours later (now), there are groups of students in front of the school singing and protesting, stopping teachers and workers from getting in.

I think it's just amazing what the power of technology allows. And I'm gonna take advantage of this long weekend to study a lot.

Oh, in case anyone cares.
There are two main reasons for this strike (as far as I know).
The first one, that the Governor of Puerto Rico is apparently using a certain law to get rid of people in the government, in hopes of making the government smaller and cut their costs.
The second one, apparently they want to sell some of UPR's colleges to a private company.
People have mentioned these two reasons to me. But I've yet to see a credible source mentioning the second one (according to half the people I know, they already sold one of the locations... But I have no way of confirming it, so I'm saying it's fake.)

If your answer is "yes", then that's all you need to know. Hit that shit. If your answer is "no", then leave it be.

How fun! Im sick of seeing strikes though. When I was in Chile for 2 years I saw about 5 strikes with schools. Sometimes the teachers sometimes the students. I saw fishermen go on strike. I saw parts of the government go on strike. And you know what IT WAS ANNOYING. If you dont like something then dont cry about it. shut up and change it.
The time the fishermen when on strike was really annoying. The one and only major highway from where I was to where I wanted to go (2 hour trip) was stopped because the fishermen blocked the road. If you want my support to in your cause you dont IMPIDE MY LIFE. It just made me pissed at them.

Im not saying that your whining. So dont get me wrong Im not mad at you. But Ive seen enough strikes in my life. Im glad to be back in the USA where I dont have to put up with that crap. When people go on strike here they dont interfer with my life. They just make their point known. But they dont stop me from getting to where Im going.

School strikes in Latin America are not uncommon. Though, once there was a teacher's strike in a middle school in Miami, it was around final exams. So nobody had to take finals.

They are doing something, legally. It isn't whining, whining is what you are doing sitting on your computer complaining about them.

Also, Alonso where do you live? You seem to use a LOT of double negatives.

Don't recall using a lot of double negatives.

Well in the girls and soccer you used so many that you might as well have said that it was hard to find a girl who HAS played soccer. And now you said not uncommon instead of just saying common...It is just a little thing I noticed.

Using not and uncommon in the same sentence is a double negative?

Well if it is, then I would've just used the word rare.
