I need to do the pot tweaking to a Samsung drive that is in a friends 360. It will read music CDs fine but will not read DVD games at all. Maybe this guide will help.

Try burning at higher speeds. I have a Hitachi 78 too, and I used to get unreadable disc error until I started burning games at 8x speed.

I love my 360, but I seriously doubt I'll ever buy another Microsoft console after the trouble I've had with the 360.
My console is just over a Year old, manufactured 8/23/2007. I didn't play it excessively, and it RRoD a few weeks ago. The Xclamp fixed has shown to be effective, but still... A pain in the ass to have to do it to save a console that cost me almost $400. Then the wireless Halo 3 mic died. Won't transmit or receive audio. Syncs to the 360, but will not function. GAY. Then the unplayable disc bullshit. Seriously, where is Microsoft's quality control, these days? Its cool that I don't pay $60 for a game, but its gay that the console has SO many flaws. Its getting ridiculous.

It is a ridiculous I must admit. I hope my falcon mobo holds up like its supposed to but I guess time will tell. I do know since I got my 360 my PS3 is literally used only for media anymore. I want that damn thing hacked already. PS3 is better imo especially when it comes to hardware quality. The only thing the 360 has is a better online service but then again you have to pay.
@OG I would try that but my burner doesn't do dual layers at that speed. I also have a friend with a Samsung drive and he has no problems at all from the discs I burn him. |

Lets see if you guys can help- tryin to flash my Hitachi 79. Powering it with the 360, using a 6421 pci sata card. When I CD boot the Slax 2.1 linux, it doesn't seem to see my hitachi drive thus failing to put it into service mode. Furthermore, the 360 is getting a single red light after I turn it on, is this important at all? My PCI card should be working since I used it before and installed all proper drivers for it (unless there's a preferred VIA one?). Any idea?

When you have the drive hooked up to the pc, if its powered by the 360, you shouldn't have any red lights. Thats not a good sign if you do.
Make sure the video cable is plugged in, cause the 360 will power off if its not. Try the other SATA port that comes out the back of the PCI card, assuming you have the same one I have, which has 2 SATA internal SATA ports and one external eSATA. After its in modeb, unplug SATA, boot to windows. Hotplug SATA back into the drive at the windows loading bar. Find the drive letter of your Hitachi. Play the 79unlock wav file in the Hitachi drive once completely, then play again and immediately pause it. Close media player. Run the 79unlock f command (assuming your drive letter is F:/) Flash with Firmware Toolbox 4.6+ like any other Hitachi drive. Viola.

Using the esata port worked! Now it has a definite E74 overheat and I'm not finding too many GOOD tuts on removing the mobo/sinks.

Find the error code if you're not positive its an E74. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726 Here is the Xclamp fix I used. Been working great since I did it. About two weeks, now. http://copronymous.com/wp-content/up...-the-3rlod.pdf Get it in mode b, unplug SATA, plug SATA back in at windows loading bar, hit eject a few times, find drive letter, play hitachi79 unlocker wav file 1 and a half times, run the 79unlock f (or whatever your drive letter is) and then flash with toolbox. BAM! Lol, I've done this a lot...
