I have a friend to ask me where to start with this. I know a bit more about computers, so I said I'd see what I can find.

Basically, he wants to burn backups to play on the 360. What does he need? Can he simply flash the DVD drive? Or does he need a modchip?

All you need to do is flash the drive, but sometimes its not that easy.

You will need:
- Most people need a VIA chipset SATA PCI card.
- You need a Torx T-10 screwdriver.
- Something small and stiff to pop the tabs on the back of the 360
- Grounding cable (or just make sure chassis of pc touches chassis of 360 when flashing)
- Slax 2.1 burned to cd if you have a Hitachi drive (at muppet-modding)
- 79unlocker burned to cd if you have a Hitachi79 drive (muppet-modding)
- Ability to boot from usb OR floppy if you have a BenQ/Samsung drive
- The iXtreme firmwares (muppet-modding)
- IMGBurn and/or CloneCD (for burning backups)
- WinRAR (for extracting iso's)
- Source for 360 downloads
- DVD+R DL Verbatim Discs. Others may/may not work, but Verbatim is king.
- A DVD burner, or course.

Its not hard, you won't use everything in that list, by any means. Depends on what kind of drive you have.

Read up. Watch a few video tutorials at 360mods. Watch them again.

Don't screw up. Lol its tough to mess one up, so you should be fine. Its an expensive mistake if you do screw up, though. You already know that.

Hope this helped.

You can also boot from ntfs4dos if you can't boot from USB or dont have a working floppy drive anymore.

Yeah, I remember you saying thats what you had to do a while back. I never had to, lol found a few FDD's in a drawer full of computer parts. Did the trick. I can't boot from USB, either.

So like a week or two ago my friend burned a hole on the back of his xbox 360 controller with my soldering iron by accident and we've been trying to find decent shells to replace his with. But then like 2 days ago i remember someone posted a chipless rapidfire mod tut a few weeks ago so we decided to try that out. It works and its pretty sweet

Im thinking of making one for me too now since he's gonna be using it against me. We put a momentary push button where the hole is; looks horrible, but it works and it's comfortable.

I drilled a hole for the ring finger on the back of the controller, painted the controller red with Krylon to match the 360, used a red momentary pushbutton switch (to match the paint) and it works/looks great. Only two wires to solder, was done in like 30 seconds.

Don't waste your time trying to rapidfire a wired controller. It won't work, even though tutorials say it does. Didn't work for me, anyway.

That's exactly what i did ^ Besides drilling the hole that is.

It's in the back where your middle finger would hit

Not sure if this will help anybody, but I wanted to share my findings.

I have a Hitachi 78Fk drive flashed with iXtreme 1.4 firmware.

I only use Verbatim DL DVD+R discs (my burner wastes other brands, i know- weird)

I have been getting the Unplayable Disc error lately, but only with games I've burned in the past week. Older backups work fine, like GTA, COD4, SC4, Grid, Pure, etc.

I took the drive apart to see if it was the magnet issue. It wasn't.

Kept browsing forums, came across the "grease your bad drive motor shit."
I knew it wasn't that, because ALL of the games on the shelf work fine. Just not new burns.

Found a Potentiometer tweak guide: Here

Tweaked my dvd POT about a 1/4 turn clockwise, tried it with a new disc, bingo. Made sure old games still work. Viola. It was bugging the hell out of me, I was suspecting faulty discs or my burner going out. Nice to know its neither.

Hope this helps someone.
