I remember that before you could see the latest forum posts on the frontpage, this were a pretty nifty function wouldn't it be possible to implement that again? If it would take to much time to code it would maybe be possible to take code from a vBulletin forum portal or something like that.

Yes, I think it would be a good idea, even at the top of the forums.
