Okay, so I cannot say I'm really up to the details on what's going on with loading ISOs from places other than the MS. However, something occured to me recently, and it might work if the info I have is correct.

The new nano is a USB-only device. Linux has been succesfully ported to the iPod before, and using two 180Mhz ARM chips, it does a good job of running it. Linux is bound to get ported to the iPod nano. Talk and initial research has already begun.

If, through Linux, the iPod can send signals to the PSP via USB 2.0, can it actually mount iself as a volume on the PSP? I mean, if the PSP can read 2.0GB memory sticks (have those shipped yet?), it breaks the 2,056MB limit and can probably address all 4GB on the nano.

4GB is enough to store a wad of movies and ISOs, as well as documents and eBooks. I'm sure an adapter can be easily crafted to mount the nano onto the back of the PSP (or modded to sit where UMDs would go) and attached via USB 2.0. Then, you can take it off and still listen to a ton of music without having to carry the admiteddly large-ish PSP around.

For $200-250, it's about the price of a 2GB MS card.

Anyone down to do this? I'm already thinking about getting a nano - shiny black, of course - and getting this project done would be friggin' awesome.

Any volunteers?

you brought up an old topic iPod <-> PSP for storage. search the forum you will see many related posts.

basically, PSP and iPod are usb clients they can't talk to each other. In order to communicate, one has to be the USB host device. in theory, it's imposible to interconnect the 2.

That's jus the thing, though. The new iPod is USB-only (not a dual USB/FireWire dealie, like before), so via Linux it can be made into the host device.

I'm still waiting on some data for the nano - Linux hasn't 'officially' been ported to it, but it's only been a couple days since release, after all. If it uses the same chipsets as other iPods that have Linux succesfully ported to them, then it shouldn't be too long. Obviously, if reverse engineering rears its ugly head, I'm in for a wait.

It'd be friggin' sweet if this project worked, though. :)

non sense. the usb host device is at hardware level, how can linux make it become a host device.?

plus, I'm buying my iPod for music, not for linux -> storage for PSP. it's just not practical matter.

iPods have been made into host devices before. It's not like it's unheard of, what I'm doing. However, a recent review has appearantly shown that the nano doesn't work with the camera card reader attachment, which might or might not mean that it cannot be used as a USB host device.

I'm glad I'm not you. :P
