OLD NEWS

Daedalus PSP (N64 emu)
Mon 1 May 2006, 4:13 PM by Darksaviour69

StrmnNrmn posted in our submit news forum.

To cut a long story short, I managed to port the emulator over fairly quickly, but after starting a new job development ground to a halt. A few months later I saw the buzz surrounding PSMonkey's N64 emu, and thought I'd have to finally bite the bullet and let people see what I had been working on.

This is quite important: The emulator is far from perfect - many (most) roms don't currently boot, and there are all sorts of crashes, graphical glitches and performance issues. There's no sound or savegame support either This should really be treated as a teaser of what's possible in the future. Hopefully if I have enough time and motivation I'll be able to make a lot of headway with these problems.

Despite all that, the emulator is showing some great signs of progress. Super Mario 64 is looking pretty good as you can see from the screenshots here: http://sourceforge.net/project/scree...group_id=57977

The next big tasks for me to tackle are to fix various crashes (i.e. many roms boot but then bug out after a few seconds) and improve performance (i.e. Mario currently only runs at around 20-25% of full speed.

Anyway, the source and binaries are released on sourceforge at the following link http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=414040

did no one here see that a new group of devs took over daedlus, and its going to be called daedaluX64 or something like that, and the first release is going to be before this month ends, the project is not dead. I heard about this update hours ago, im just surprised no one mentioned anything about it here yet. lol. but anyway go to qj. for more info, i cant wait this is going to be sweet.

Edit: heres the link to the article

http://pspupdates.qj.net/StrmnNrmn-s.../49/aid/124830

"Daedalus ain't dead yet! I'm sure a lot of you guys (myself included, actually) have been wondering what's been cooking for the PSP's all-time fave Nintendo 64 emulator, so here's some good news for you.

See we haven't heard from StrmnNrmn for close to a year now. His blog has been pretty quiet of late, and his latest release for his Nintendo 64 emulator on the PSP was (the sort-of-unofficial-but-not-really) Daedalus R14. So now, a couple of Daedalus fans got together to help get the N64 emulator project going.

The team is being led by Shinydude100, and he aims to help out the community by continuing where StrmnNrmn left off. Thus starts the DaedalusX64 project. Shinydude100 managed to get a hold of the Daedalus source code and, with two other devs in tow, has already made known his plans.

"This should be supported for the PSP, and if all goes well, we should see increased performance, and even better texture rendered on the floors of games like Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Diddy Kong Racing with actual polygons appearing. By change, i do not mean i'm suggesting, i mean i'll change the graphics plugin to an 07 graphics based Plugin which should support our PSPs. GRAPHICAL IMPROVEMENT is a BIG thing when it comes to the emulated FPS we get on Deadalus."

~Shinydude100 Deadalus Coder--Keeping it Alive...

No specific date yet for when Shinydude100 plans to release the initial version of DaedalusX64, however, the strmnnrmn forums indicate the end of October as a potential date for its release.

Our hats off to chuck for the tip!"

and theres the article itself. this is going to be awsome!

Captain Morgan, Moers, Kreationz, Shinydude100 and Wally Have recieved the compiled eboot of Daedalusx64 Version 0.01 A (Alpha). There are only a few games I've tested out, and what I can say to everyone is that while it isn't %100 full-speed yet, it has had an increase in FPS. Certain games have dramatic speed-increases that are sustained in certain spots like main menus and logos. I almost screamed when I saw the Nintendo Logo on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time run for like a good second at 129 FPS. Then of course it dropped down, but the menu before initiating game-play ran at about 55-60 Frames per second. The area of the game where Link walks out of his house to be greeted by Sarah, that seemed to run at about 8 Fps Average, but it goes up and down, the Z target makes it jump up to 9 FPS and running around drops it to a 6.8 to 7.. Each PSP may run this differently due to: If your psp is at 333 Mhz, if your options are set the same way I have mine, etc. I have made a short clip of LOZOOT, but don't go crying when you see its impressive frame-rate as other areas are still not fulfilling for some...(That'll be my next goal, to get a caching MUCH like the NeoGeo with Rom Conversion possibly) Well thats it for now, I'll get the video up when I get the nearest chance, You will not ber dissapointed DaedalusX64 Community... just ask the other 4 Authorized Alpha Testers at what they have to say about it. ;-)
Also screenshots.

Here's hope for those of us who still believe.

Of course, PSPDonkey's kids have had a running n64 emulator for like a year and a half now right? If only no-one had mocked him when he said he'd made it...

DaedalusX64 update news

Quote:
Well after taking the weekend off I got back to the code. I found the bug that broke Mario Party, Harvest Moon and possibly others. I made my Double Display List code optional and Mario Party and Harvest Moon now play with it off (It is what fixed 007 and South Park Rally, but broke these and possibly caused a TV out bug or two.)

In the past few days Chilly Willy has sped up the audio code, but this has caused bugs. He and howard0su are working on those bugs. (But as the 1.1 video show the audio code is faster.)

howard0su is also working on the exit related bugs as well.

I've recently had a dynarec idea I'm running past the other coders to see if it's feasible, but not sure yet. Also I'm working with Wally on various graphics related issues.
