So can I use this one to install 503gen-a or must it be R2 that never seems to load?

Either; this one is based off of R2.

I feel obliged to mention, though, that it seems like other people aren't having the same kind of results that I do with the MOD. Damned if I know WHY, it always works for me but it isn't always the case with other people... try it and see if it works any better, if it doesn't then R2 will also do the trick. Eventually. <_<

I use it on my 2001 and it works first time every time for me too. It is a mystery...

so i was able to get HEN+CFW Enabler v3.5 to work and my current FW is at 5.03 M33-6. should i keep this or switch to 5.03 GEN-A or is it just the same thing under a different name?

Also where should i place the cso files on the memstick?

GEN-A and M33 are different lines of CFW made by different people. From what I hear, GEN tends to do some stuff that M33 doesn't, but M33 works with more homebrew and doesn't crash as often; a lot of people have generally prefered M33 but it hasn't been updated in a while and is currently blocked by PSN. If you decide to switch, ask around first; I think it's possible to brick when switching between these two if you're not careful, and if you're like me with a TA-088v3 then bricking is the LAST thing you want...

As for CSOs, put them in the ms0:\ISO folder; they're compressed ISOs.

You might not have any UMD driver selected; hit Select in the XMB and change the UMD driver over to Sony NP9660 (best) or M33 (also good). Alternately, you could also chuck a UMD in the drive. Doing either of those things might solve your problem if you haven't done them already.

When you have an error, it's a good idea to post the number. You can also check it against this list.

Default ChickHen R2, ChickHen Mod and CFW Enablers

I have used R2 Mod and CFW Enablers on quite a large number of PSP, both 2000 and 3000. And have found the following which might help some of you out there.

When one uses CH R2 or Ch Mod always, always make sure to remove egghunt.bin that is left in the root of your memory card after each successful flip. If the flip has not been successful there will not be an egghunt.bin in your root.

Now CHMod is very successful on PSP2000 but will give problems on PSP3000. If used on a PSP2000 then it seems you do not have any problems in flashing the CFW Enabler, but with 3000 its a different story. Maybe something Xenogears and Becus25 can help with.
The problem with CH R2 is its non repeatability but restoring to defaults and making sure egghunt is not in the root reduces the number of retries.

GoodLuck
