Default battery instead of umd drive?

it seems the umd drive is essentially pointless now and only takes up space.

ive seen the phone mod, and the extra hd, and the speakers.

its cool, but 16 GB is enough space for me and the others seem pointless. has anyone put an extra battery of some sort in the umd drive area that anyone knows about?
