Minimum required to install it:

• A PSP-1000 or PSP-2000 v1 or v2 (that means all the PSP can be flashées)
• A PSP with Custom Firmware 3.52 M33-3 or higher already installed

Which means it doesn't work with HEN or "unhackable" PSPs. Oh well

should we update it from 5.00 m33-6 to 5.50 GEN-A ? I am afraid because I prefer 5.00 m33-6 for PSP isos and some psx games enable to play without popstation. I know this can but are we wise to do it ?

Updating will allow you to play the latest games, and have some more compatibility with PSX games.

Do I update to 5.50 first then do this?

I have 5.03, chickHEN, but its annoying having to restart it every time, will this actually let me have 5.50 CFW, so I'll never need to restart?

DONT UPDATE TO 5.50
5.50 gen-a is ONLY for psp the can flash a REAL CFW like 5.00 m33-6(Phat and older slims)

DON'T use this if you have a 3000 or a ta088v3MB
it WIL BRICK them if you use this

keep using chickhen and CFW enabler/5.03 Gen-A

Hi all, new user here at the forums as well as being very new to PSP hacks/cracks/mods. I was going to post this in the help forum but seeing the informative replies posted by users in this thread I decided to brave sticking my questions here. Apologies if it really should be somewhere else.

I've been going over this and a few other topics wondering whether I should update or not (as well as if I can update or not) and in a nutshell, I'm incredibly confused as to what should/shouldn't be done and so forth. As such, I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me.

1) Can my PSP use 5.5 GEN-A? Early on in the topic someone says "5.50 gen-a is ONLY for psp the can flash a REAL CFW like 5.00 m33-6(Phat and older slims)" and the problem is that I don't know where my PSP falls. When I actually first modded my PSP (2000 series) to 5.00 M33-6 I spent a long time going over my PSP to see whether or not my PSP was one of the newer versions or not. My friend told me to look up the "box method" where you look at the sticker on the box and check the letter. The topic states "If you find letters like: NP,NPA,A,B,C,D,E,F,G you can still hack your PSP... Every letter over G are the new unhackble psp..." which I thought was clear and straightforward. That is, until I checked my box and found that there was no letter. The sticker goes like this:

220-240V
ss259

Going by all I've read, the letter should be there next to the "ss259" bit. But um yeah, there's none. Cue confusion. I'd post the barcode number or something but there's a few different codes on the box which is a bit confusing as well as to which might be important.

2) Someone mentioned "Which means it doesn't work with HEN or "unhackable" PSPs. Oh well". I installed my CFW using ChickHEN and the Recovery Flasher (as recommended in this guide which I will say was very helpful), does the use of ChickHEN stop me from using GEN 5.50-A? Or is the poster referring to something else? - (my friend mentioned something about ChickHEN for the newer Slims that was more annoying than the "real hack" I used).

3) Do I even require 5.50 GEN-A for what I'm after? What I'm currently after being playing Disgaea 2, Tales VS and possibly MHFU. Someone mentioned an "Update Trick" which sounds a lot easier but then when someone asked what the point of using 5.50 GEN-A was, someone else replied that it's required to play some of the newer games (MHFU being an example in said post) which suddenly makes me unsure if the Update Trick will suit my needs.

4) Being that I've stated what I'm after in 3, in the event that I can use 5.50 GEN-A would I need to switch to 5.50 GEN-B/GEN-B2? Even if I don't need to, would it be recommended? On that note, what's the difficulty involved in installing the CFW/risk of bricking my PSP? As an example of my somewhat limited capability in the realm of doing such things, I was able to follow these instructions fairly easily to install 5.00 M33.
