32 gig Microdrive

I'm not new to the forum but this is my first post. Im sure everyone has heard of the Datel MAX 4gb HDD. Well I had some extra money so I decided to blow it on a lot of 6 yes 6 of these units. 3 work and 3 dont but hey thats the chance you take with Ebay.

OK OK my point is I took one that doesnt work apart and it is just a microdrive or better known as a Compact Flash drive. Newegg has 32 gig CF drives starting at $80. Now knowing that its a CF drive and it works as Ive confirmed with 3 my thoughts are why not just switch out drives. I will update everyone as to how well this works. Or if it doesnt work.


OH and as a side note I have never soldered so I wont try it but some of you that have Im sure you could work it out to be internal as the unit that holds the drive will fit inside the UMD bay.

y not get a photofast cr5400 with 2x 16gb micro sd cards. much cheaper. and yes you can upgrade the microdrive in the datel product

Actually 2 16gb micro sd cards and the adapter will be more than if I bought an 32gb CF drive. Even on Ebay 2 micros will still be roughly the same price not counting the cost of the adapter.

I don't know, if it were me I'd want to have everything internal and flush and i'd be willing to pay the extra 10-20% over the top to do it.

True but thats not really a true mod. Whereas with this setup it can be ran internally. Which is what I will do eventually. I just have to get someone to solder me some extended ribbon to run it to the UMD bay.

u can internalize a cr-3100 and 16gb SD cards are like $25-$35

im all for modding man. heres my psp with a internalized cr-3100 with 2x 16GB


if you dont have a slim you will have to solder tho and its not a easy job

I didnt mean to offend you in fact i have to apologize as I was confused between the cr-3100 and the cr-5400. At any rate i just thought that any type of internal "harddrive" would be cool. And really I got a decent deal for the Datel systems. And actually there are cf adapters for sd cards too.

so how do you interface two sd cards together so they are effectively one, can you also have a ms in it? i would love to do this but i would want a way of using UMDs aswell.

If you want to play UMDs as well you would be better off getting a cr-5400 which uses 2 micro sd cards.
