Default My two cents

hello!
I would really like to add my two cents into this conversation.

I really do not like the PSP-GO, I understand what Sony is doing and I do not like it. In the big, big picture any company that deals with digital media that doesn’t have their own take on Apples “App store” is likely to fail in the near future, or at least that is what everyone is thinking. Instead of Sony just saying “Hey, look we have our very own store, just like Apple!” Sony is using the PSP-GO to push their PSN into the public’s eye. Just look at how Sony has been advertising the PSP-GO, everything surrounding the GO is all about the PSN, and not how this is a “revolutionary handheld.”

I was a stupid consumer and assumed that the PSP-GO would have special access to the “Minis”, or at least that is the way Sony wants everyone to think. Has anyone played the Minis? Especially the Minis game “Hero of Sparta”? I own an iPhone and a PSP, so I was happy to test both back to back and try to understand what Sony is doing.

I have downloaded many games on the iPhone and I have to say the iPhone/iTouch is not in the same league as the PSP, it’s lower. Yes the graphics of the iPhone/iTouch are nice, and the touch screen is very touchable, but I have to say the games are very shallow and without actual joysticks or buttons the iPhone/iTouch falls flat. When I heard about “Hero of Sparta” being ported to the PSP I was excited to try it out with REAL buttons. But, I was really, really disappointed. Yes, the game was better with actual buttons, but the PSP is WAY better than this. What the hell is Sony doing? Way is Sony are taking a wonderful handheld that can play huge titles, long games with great stories and bringing this awesome handheld down to Apples level?

Sony is trying to get their own “niche” in the same market that Apple has, but they should really keep their nose out of it. Just look at the other companies that are trying to do the same, especially Microsoft with the Zune. Who the hell cares or owns a Zune? Yes they look really nice, but if I had to pick between an iPhone/iTouch or a Zune, Apple would win. That’s how the majority of people think, yeah the Zune looks better on paper, but Apple has such a huge backing that no matter what anyone says Apple will win. So why Sony is trying to put their head into Apples business makes no sense to me. Yes, you might get some trickles of money but not enough to build a new handheld for that demographic.

What Sony SHOULD be doing is building is something BETTER than the competition instead of copying it. Build something that knocks the socks off of everyone else in YOUR slice of the pie.

So what lacks on the iPhone/iTouch if you use it as a gaming device?
Buttons
No matter what Apple does, they will never add a Joystick to the iPhone/iTouch, so build off of that!

What about the other side, Nintendo.
What are they lacking?
Graphics
So INSTEAD of making your screen smaller, make it better! Bring your resolution up or something to show the mass public; “here is what my competition is doing, but look at what I’m bringing to the table!”

Also, I’ve read that “Sony’s sales are up 300% on the PSN”
Well that is like calling the kettle black.
So Sony, you build a handheld that the ONLY way for people to get content on it is threw the PSN… and your surprised that your sales went up on the PSN???

I have gone to my local Gamestop/Best Buy and I have to say I can tell that they are not pleased with Sony and the PSP-GO. I went to 2 Gamestops and 1 Best Buy and none of them had the handheld out so you could try it out. Also, before the release neither stores here made a big “who ha” about the PSP-GO coming out, and to top it off now that it is out, you have to know about it or you will not be able to find it in the store.

Sony, you need to do something quick before you destroy what you have built. The PSP is a great handheld and I’ll keep my 2000 until I die, but I would really love it if you actually listened to the gamer, and add what we want. Bring a second Joystick; make a downloadable program so you can map the buttons, adjust the sensitivity per-game and cross platform old and upcoming games; bring a camera to the table, and maybe some basic touch features. Make the PSP better; don’t use it as an ad campaign. We all love the PSP and we don’t want to see it go to the way side.

Also,
I truly believe that even though people are tight with their money right now, people don’t mind spending good money on good products.

I HAD intended getting a Go! but that was only because I had hoped it would be fully hackable further down the line but I'm not so sure after hearing rumours, from the same guy who released the rumours about the slim PS3, that there's gonna be another, but proper, update...

Only issue... I've only seen it working on homebrew... no idea for commercial appstore apps.

That's sick man! And no, I'm not in the "Apple Scene" I have a Jail Broken iPhone 3GS and that's about it. I tried out a lot of the games but I was really put off with the lack of real buttons. It's really cool what the Apple scene is doing, I hope it runs more than just homebrew, but I'm not sure how they would do that. It looks to me like they basiclly made there own "attachment" and they are running code so that when you start up the game it will know what button does what in the homebrew... pretty sweet idea.

Just somethin, I lol'd about was that they are turning the iPhone into a... PSP lol.

Also, PS nice signature, f'ing love Blink 182. So stoked they are back togeather, got pit tickets to there last show and it fucking ruled!

hehehe I envy you

I've only gotten to see them before they broke up 7 times(2x with No Doubt, 3x with Green Day & 2x with Taking Back Sunday & some other lame punk band in which sucked ass - a few months before *Blink broke up) in between those times I saw Transplants & BCR, and recently last year did manage to see AVA & +44 once each.. but I've yet to see them back as Blink 182 now since I live now at PR, I used to live at FL, NY & PA(that's how I managed to see them many times). Hopefully if more shows come.. I'll fly again to manage to see them again... I can't wait till they get back into recording for the new album =D

*iControl (iphone) well their plans were for future developers to program their new apps/games to be used with the gamepad adapter... some other shit... main issue is.. well those games are made for touch reaction.... so.. no freaking clue.. how the heck will that be managed unless a pluggin(addon) is adapted with *BossPreferences so that it could be activated when needed for an app/game ... wte some shit like that... ZOD (zodttd.com) is the Master on the homebrew scene.. pretty sure he has an idea how to make it work on appstore apps ... or maybe... Apple would get interested on that iControl and they make it available for their future iPhone SDK & in the near future massive distribution worldwide with that gamepad adapter heheheee LOL =P

I've gotten so not related to this *THREAD

so my opinion of the PSPGo - I just don't like it.... I'll just wait till the price is dropped & well it gets fully hacked.. and then maybe I will buy it.. I'm extremely happy with my Phat 1k PSP with 2(Yes! not 1 but 2) 32gb (adapter 2x 16gb micro SDHC) .. so yeah I have 64gb of available storage. With about 97 PSP Games & ton's of Roms etc.... a PSPGo won't ever match up to it unless it gets fully hacked/modded.

*WAFFLES

I think it's funny how everyone who hates the Go has never had one to hate, it's a great hand held ladies, you just don't like the notion of paying your way in life.

I guess you'll just have to love it or hate it.

I still find myself in the middle until Sony makes that games exchange program for all the legit games that people had bought with their hard-earned money. I refuse to to pay for something that I already own.

Anyway, prices will drop, it will eventually be hacked, then everyone's gonna be happy and Sony will (hopefully) realize what lameness they have spawned. Like JoblessPunk said, people don't mind spending money on something worth it to them.

Well, maybe better luck next time (PSPGo2) on us "haters" that just really wanted nothing more than our money's worth.

Ok, from the legit point of view- $200 for a PSP with $50 for 16GB memory (no matter what mem you buy it WILL run you about 50 for the same setup) so its NOT overpriced by a penny. BT stereo ability is nice for a bigger player like a psp because you'd just keep it safely outta sight and enjoy your music all the same. If you buy games I don't see how where you do so matter per se.

From our community's point of view, all of the above + who the hell uses their UMD drive anyway? Good riddens.
