So you want to bring a new PSP and you're getting confused , and asking yourself 'which one shall I buy !'
This is the guide you need to find the correct PSP for you

PSP 1000 (aka : Phat)



Hackable : Yes via the following
3.50 or lower : downgrade to 1.50 then install CFW
Or : upgrade to 5.03 then see the following :
5.03 or lower : Use chickhen then hellcat recovery flasher/Xgen updater
Higher than 5.03 : Magic Memory Stick + Pandora Battery

Motherboards :
TA-079, TA-081, TA-082, TA-086

Pros:
1-Can softmod Pandora at any mobo ( don't know what's pandora? Go here )
2-Infrared port , so you can use it as a remote for different things via different homebrew
3-If it goes bricked , you can unbrick it via Pandora Battery + Magic memory stick
4-You can mess with your Flash since if you brick your PSP you can unbrick it
5-Can play 1.50 homebrew with 1.50 kernel add-on for 5.00 m33 .
If on 5.50 gen+ then it can play 1.50 homebrew with Leda 0.2

Cons:
1-Screen worse than other PSP models
2-Heavier than other PSPS and thicker than them
3-Only 32 mb of ram in it , which can't be upgraded to be 64 mb ram like other PSPS
4-No built-in Microphone
5-Screen not as bright as 3000
6-Can't be charged via USB cable except if it's hardmodded from inside to do that , however you can still charge it via usb without hardmodding but you'll need a PSP 2 in 1 data transfer/charging cable:

PSP 2000 (Aka : Slim)



Hackable : See the following
1-According to the motherboards , if it's a PSP slim with a motherboard other than Ta-088 v3 then it can be hacked via the following
1-5.03 OFW or lower via chickhen + hellcat's recovery flasher/xgen updater
2-Higher than 5.03 OFW , hackable via pandora battery + Magic memory stick
If it's a PSP slim with Ta-088 v3 :
Then it's only hackable if OFW is 5.03 or lower via Chickhen + CFW enabler/5.03 GEN which are temp hacks which you'll have to redo when you cold reboot your PSP ( not sleep mode ! )
If it's higher than 5.03 OFW then it can't be hacked or downgraded yet
If you have a PSP slim with OFW higher than 5.03 and you don't know the motherboard version and you lost the box and you don't want to get pandora and then it may not work and then you go crying (lol)
Then there's a way , if you remember when your PSP was bought , you can check the firmware release dates here
Which means check when you bought your PSP and check the firmware which has about the same time of you bought your PSP
Remember : came with less than 4.01 OFW then it has the hackable motherboard
Came with 4.01 OFW : 70% has unhackable motherboard ta-088 v3 , 30% has hackable motherboard ta-088 v2
Came with higher than 4.01 OFW : It has the unhackable motherboard

Motherboards : TA-085 [v1-v2], TA-088 [v1-v3]

Pros:
1-Screen better than PSP 1000
2-Can be unbricked if motherboard isn't ta-088 v3 via Pandora battery + Magic memory stick
3-PSP slims with TA-085 v1 motherboard can softmod pandora batteries
4-64 mb ram
5-Thinner than PSP phat and lighter
6-Can play 1.50 homebrew via leda 0.2 ( only use leda if you have a psp slim with mobo not ta-088 v3 , if used for ta-088 v3 it'll brick)
7-Can be charged via USB cable without having to hardmod the PSP to do it

Cons:
1-Screen worse than PSP 3000 and PSP GO!
2-Can't be unbricked if mobo is ta-088 v3 except with sony
3-PSP slims with motherboards other than TA-085 v1 can't softmod pandora batteries
4-No Infrared port
5-PSP slims with ta-088 v3 motherboards can't play 1.50 homebrew
6-No Microphone
7-Screen not as bright as 3000

Some tips if you're gonna buy a slim PSP :

The slim PSP is tricky, you might get a hackable PSP and you might get an unhackable one.
There are limited editions which are confirmed to come with a hackable motherboard :

PSP 3000 (AKA : Brite)





Hackable : Yes , but under certain conditions
If firmware is 5.03 OFW or lower , then it can be hacked via Chickhen + CFW enabler/5.03 GEN which is temp hack which will be have to be redone when the PSP is cold rebooted ( Not sleep mode ! )
If firmware is higher than 5.03 , then it can't be hacked or downgraded yet

Motherboards : TA-090 [v2]

Pros:
1-Screen better than PSP 1000 and PSP 2000
2-64 mb ram
3-Same light and thin as PSP 2000 , so It's thinner and lighter than PSP Phat
4-Bulit-in Microphone
5--Can be charged via USB cable without having to hardmod the PSP to do it

Cons:
1-Can't softmod Pandora batteries
2-Can't be unbricked except with Sony
3-No infrared port
4-Can't play 1.50 homebrew

PSP Go!





Hackable : No. Well , Davee did make a homebrew enabler for it , it's 6.10 typhoon , but he said he won't ever release it

Motherboards : TA-091, TA-094

Pros:
1-Lighter and thinner than Previous PSP models
2-Better controls
3-16GB internal memory
4-Bluetooth 2.0
5-Longer battery life
6-Microphone
7-Resume Game
8-Screen can be viewed much better in rooms with bad glare / reflection.

Cons:
1-Doesn't have infrared port
2-If bricked , only way to unbrick is Sony
3-Screen smaller than older PSP models
4-No UMD drive
5-USB power supply, you can charge 1000, 2000, 3000 without needing a special cord. Athough the power supply can still plug into the wall.
6-No more 5pin usb cable
7-Screen not as Bright as 3000's

Well , It seems that hacking depends mainly on firmwares in some PSP models , there have been a good way on how to identify the firmware from the box letter of the PSP

Some additional information :
1-To know your PSP'S motherboard ( useful for PSP slims to know if you have unhackable motherboard or not ) then you need to have 5.03 OFW or lower installed , then use Chickhen and use PSP ident and it'll give you PSP motherboard information

Not all PSP Slims with 4.01 out of the box have the TA-88v3 motherboard.



I'd say 70% out of the box with 4.01 FW are TA-88v3, 30% TA-88v2.

and kamenrider , is psp go really nice ? I mean what more do you see in it than the other psps ? All I see in it is a slide screen , but it's smaller and psp is too smaller and that sux , also no hack means no funny homebrew means I'll have to pay for each single game !!! Do you think the psp go worths its current cost !

off topic but its definitely not worthit. Here in the UK, its £225. I paid £150 cos my friend bought if for me from hong kong. I wouldnt have bought it @225. But you're right, it sits there doing nothing at the moment. My 3.5 yr old watches movies on it and thats about it.

So i still bought it despite the negatives because of the over ruling factor that i just like gadgets....lol

That's exactly what I will do with a GO! ( I'm not going to buy a GO! , I'm saying if I get one for free ,lol ) , I won't buy games off PSN cuz my internet is so slow it'll take 30 minutes to download 100 mb in pc ( it'd be 1 hour in PSP , I'm sure ) and it's expensive because of my currency. 1 dollar = 5.5 of my currency so that sucks
I'd just use its 16 gb internal memory to listen to my music , I'll fill the 16 gb with music except if I want to watch some films when travelling / when going out so it'd be nice . Other than that , GO! sucks , But if eloader really come for it ( I guess it won't ) then it'd be great , using emulators on go which is 480 mhz I remember would be awesome games will be faster
