1. a slim isint hard. u dont even need to solder if u dont want. theres tuts on the net (acidmods i think) for a slim. if u want to solder it these are the sizes of the tabs and such compared to a penny. the top soldering iron tip is a cheap radioshack one and the bottom one is the finniest tip i could find for my $150 soldering iron, it woulda been really hard to do it on the radio shack one the cable is from a ide cable for a HDD in a computer
2. iv got a 3100 and notice no lag anywhere. all my iso's/cso's are the same from when i had a official card and none of them lag.

Great stuff kouki, 3100 for me. Any recommendation on which brand sticks to get. Also any reason to go with .iso over .cso or does it vary game by game.

stick brand dosent matter to much i dont think as long as u dont get it from ebay. im using some no name "PQI" brand that iv never heard of and yet i get the best speed test results. as for cso and iso, some cso's have the videos removed and some games (gta) lag like hell as cso. if it lags as a cso just convert it back to a iso

Something I found out about the cr-3100 is that it converts sdhc to microsd to pro duo. I saw a few tests of sandisk ultra II sdhc's around the 10mb mark read and under 400 PI. My cr-5400 with kingston 8gb x 2 class 4 got 394 PI. I'm thinking about getting AData 16gb x 2 microsd on newegg, they claim 15/9mb write/read so I'm guessing I could get atleast 10mb read off of them.

I actually did a comparison with a single 4gb microSD, single adapter and the cr5400, some interesting results...
PSP phat 5.00 M33-6 microsd 4gb class 2 cr5400 adapter ![]() PSP phat 5.00 M33-6 microsd 4gb class 2 single microSD generic adapter ![]() sorry, I don't know how to tell if speed access is on or not, never had the need to check. ha looking at the pictures they're kinda small, but the score for te single adapter with the single card was 315 whereas the same card with the cr5400 was 351, but the thing is the menu loads quicker with the single adapter, game play is very slightly smoother with the single adapter as well...go figure. I already own a 4GB Sony Memory stick and I ordered a CR-5400 before I looked at these benchmarks. After testing my memory stick and looking at benchmarks I've come to the conclusion that picking a CR-3100 or a CR-5400 is not the way to go if you want high performance from your storage disk. They are bought for reduced costs and perhaps for a cool geek factor.
The results on the CR-5400 seem to mainly vary the write speeds which is not particularly useful for most PSP usage, it would be more beneficial to have faster read speeds which the CR-3100 and the CR-5400 doesn't offer but certain memory sticks do, such as the SanDisk Ultra II models. Do you agree with these conclusions? |

However, the cr-3100 and ESPECIALLY the cr-5400 are the smart-man's choice for a memory card. Unless you have to have the bleeding edge with no lag whatsoever in any game and price is no option. Even then, as micro sdhc and sdxc technology improves these cards will continue to improve as well (according to the test results provided) (but there doesn't seem to be any class 2 test results so this claim is baseless). The bleeding edge, however, is almost never the way to go. If you have the money though and you have to have the very best available, by all means buy a memory stick pro duo with a fast read time. "faster read speeds ... such as the SanDisk Ultra II models." Haha no. The read speed of the SanDisk Ultra II cards are almost identical to my ordinary Sandisk even somewhat slower, surprisingly. If you really want crazy fast read speeds get a Sandisk Extreme III or IV which have a minimum of 18 MB/s read/write. Good luck finding them at a decent price and larger than 8 GB though. tl;dr If you're frugal, know what you're doing, and want a ton of space the CR-5400 is the way to go. If you're bleeding-edge and value performance over sheer space get an XXXXXTREME III or IV. Quote:
Kingston is definitely the microsdhc card to get if you're in the market for an 8GB card or any size really. |
