Ok so i have really started to get in to the Conversion of Playstation 1 games to PSP so i thought i would start a thread purely on getting Final Fantasy VII on to the PSP.

I would like to thank RainMotorsports for inspiring me for this thread. If you cannot understand this thread there is Rains guide on the link below which i used and the first time i followed his instructions i managed to get this working.

http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/f133/tutorial-rains-playstation-one-on-psp-superguide-t221552/

I just hope this thread is just as successful as his. Remember i want to keep this thread strictly for putting Final Fantasy VII games. Once i have managed to Conquer FFVII for the PSP i will move on to Final Fantasy 8 and then 9. I decided that i would start with FF7 being as it is pretty easy to do if done correctly.

This thread is a work in progress and I only know bits about converting games to the PSP. There are still a few things I havent quite gotten my head around but by creating this thread for myself and you the viewers to put your input Im sure we can create a thread to help everyone put this game on their psp with no problems. I am currently using Custom Firmware 5.00m33-3. So if problems ever occur (which they shouldn't) then i suggest updating your firmware to the same.

Basically to put a Playstation game on to the PSP your aim is to basically create a file called "eboot.pbp". After you create this all you need to do is copy it to the relevant folder on your psp. By following this guide you will be able to do that.

So in this first post
Part 1 - Gives an easy to follow guide of how to rip the images of Final Fantasy VII on to your computer
Part 2 - Shows you how to create an eboot.pbp which you need to run the game
Part 3 - Shows how to put your newly created eboot on to your PSP ready to be played.

Part 1
1. First off what you need to do is get an image of your Final Fantasy VII CDs on to your PC. To do this follow the steps below.

1. Download Alcohal 120%. You can download a trial version for free from this link below.
http://www.alcohol-soft.com/

2. Install Alcohal 120%.

3. Open up Alocohal 120% and this screen will appear.]
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/1.jpg

4. Insert your Final Fantasy VII - CD1 disc in to your CD Rom.

5. Next in Alcohal 120% down the left hand side click on "Image Making Wizard"

6. A box will appear like below. Make sure you set your CD/DVD drive so that it is pointing to the CD Rom with the Final Fantasy VII CD in and then also you need to change the "Data Type" so that it is in a "Play Station" format. After you have done this click "Next"
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/2.jpg

7. In the next screen you need to input where you want the image to be saved to. I created a folder on my desktop which is specifically where i will save each CD image. So for CD1 i have pointed it to be saved in the "Final Fantasy VII - CD1" folder. Just below that you need to input a name that the image saved as so for this i have called it "FINALFANTASY7-CD1" This makes it easier for me to determine which CD is which after the images have been created. Finally in this screen you need to change the image formate so that it is "Clone CD Image File (*.ccd)" Below is a screen shot of how it should be set up like i have explained here.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/3.jpg

8. Finally click start. Alcohal 120% will then start to rip the image from your CD. Doing this does not damage your cd.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/4.jpg

9. Eventually when it reaches 100% completion Alcohal 120% will bring up the menu below. It is basically telling you the images that it has ripped from your CDs and then tells you where you have saved the image to.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/5.jpg

10. Repeat the steps above for both CD2 and CD3 and your final screen will look like this.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/6.jpg

Ok so on completion of this you will have ripped an image of all 3 Final Fantasy VII CD's and they are all in a folder where you can easily access each CD.

=======================================================

Part 2

Now that you have your images of your Final Fantasy VII cds you now need to prepare them so they can be copied to your PSP and are playable. So all you have to do is click on the FF7 icon on your PSP (which you will create soon) and then Final Fantasy VII shall start.

1. Ok first of all you need to download a simple program called PSX2PSP. This can be found at the link below.
http://rapidshare.com/files/131526303/PSX2PSPv1.4.2FULL.zip.html

2. Create a folder on your desktop called PSX2PSP. Then open up the file you just downloaded and extract all the files in there to the folder you have just created.

3. Open up PSX2PSP.EXE it will ask you if you want to use either the theme based GUI or just the text based. I prefer to use the text based but it doesn't really matter as they both do the same.

4. What i usually do at this point is create a new folder on my desktop called "Final Fantasy VII - eboot". In side this folder i then create 3 seperate folders for each CD.

5. On PSX2PSP you then need to put in all relevant details. So here we go...
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/7.jpg

So what you can see here. On the left side under "ISO/PBP File:" This is where you need to point it to the image that we ripped in Part 1. So i have pointed it at "FINALFANTASY7-CD1.img" This is the image that i am wanting PSX2PSP to convert to a .eboot. The "Output PBP folder:" So this is the folder where you want the eboot to be saved. As i said in point 4 i created a seperate folder for these so i know exactly where my .eboots are. "Game Title" This should already be set. Depending on which CD you are doing it should name it for you. As it happens it has named this to be "Final Fantasy VII [Disc 1of3]" which is quite convenient as it knows exactly what im doing. For the game ID it will automatically set this for you as well. For Final Fantasy VII CD1 it always sets it to "SCES" and the number to the right of it is "00867 and this is the same for the "Main Game ID:"

So now that is done you have 2 options. You can click convert which will basically set the program off doing what it should do by creating an eboot which is what we are after.

Before that though you may wish to make it look a little smarter on your screen and a bit more "professional" by creating the icons for Final Fantasy VII. You do that by getting images off the net, using the image editing package of your choice. (If you would like a free one download GIMP for free which is a powerful image editing package) Please note that when creating images it might be a good idea to actually enter a little bit of text on the image to state which CD it is that your about to play.

Icon sizes.
ICON0 - needs to be either 80x80pixels or 144x80pixels
PIC1.PNG - 480x272pixels
BOOT.PNG - 480x272pixels

To see what your screen will look like click the "Preview" button. Below is a screen shot of what i created.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/8.jpg

After you have done with this all you need to do is click convert.

6. After the convert has completed check your output folder and within it should be your newly created eboot for Final Fantasy VII-CD1.

7. Repeat this for CD2 and CD3. Please remember that when doing both these CDs you have to set the Game ID so that it is the same as the Game ID for CD1. In my case i have to make sure that my CD2 and CD3 Game ID's are set to 00867. This will enable me to be able to use the same saved game file on CD2 and 3 that CD1 uses rather than creating loads of game saves for each disk.

=======================================================

Part 3

Ok so in Part 2 you have been shown how to create your .eboot.pbp which is the file that we need in order to play Final Fantasy VII (and all our games) on the PSP. Ok so now its just a case of doing the following.

1. Turn on your PSP.

2. In XMB you need to go across to "settings" and then move up to USB Connection. (make sure that you have a usb cable connected up.)

3. A box similar to the one below will appear (this maybe slightly different depending on the version of firmware you have installed on your PSP. I currently am using 5.00 m33-3.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg30/ugforums/9.jpg

4. Go in to the "PSP" folder and then you need to go in to the "Game" folder. This is where you need to copy your eboot files that you have created via the PSX2PSP program.
Before you do that it is best to create 3 files and name them corresponding to each CD. So create a "Final Fantasy VII-CD1" folder, a Final Fantasy VII-CD2 folder and finally a "Final Fantasy VII-CD3" folder.

Next you need to go to the folder where you set your eboots to be sent to in Part 2. I set mine to be sent to a folder on my desktop called "Final Fantasy VII - eboot".
Within that folder you should find the folders that you created for each CD. Go in to the folder where you should find the CD1 eboot and you should find a folder called "SCES00867". Go in here and then you will see the eboot.pbp you have created. Copy the eboot for CD1 and then paste it in to your "Final Fantasy VII-CD1" folder which you have just created previously.

Repeat this process for CD2 and then CD3. Eventually you will have all 3 eboots for each CD in 3 seperate folders corresponding to the CD number within the PSP/Game/ folders.

5. Disconnect your PSP from the PC and then in the XMB on your PSP move across to "Game" and then move down to "Memory Stick" and press "X". You should now see the icons that you created for each CD and if you click on each one you will go straight in to the game.

If you have done as i said previously when creating the images you put a little bit of text in the corner of your background image you will be able to easily see which CD you are on. Click Final Fantasy CD1 of 3 and it should start up and run perfectly.

well, nice guide, but Rain made one quite nice...and I did it a long time ago without guides. It's not that hard, plus you can use cloneCD, PowerISO(the one I use) and magic ISO ;)

since when can just anyone post threads in the Tutorials section?

Its on a Moderation queue someone still has to approve it. Greg felt that it shouldnt be restricted, i made my case and he made a case back about the work it would be for moderators to move threads. I let it go.

Couple of weeks later we had a couple of cases and greg agreed but forgot to we had another case and he remembered and turned it on. AT first every post had to be approved which was annoying. He has it set last i talked to him and knew of that the threads go into a moderation queue when submitted and wont appear until approved.

I can't dis this thread nor can i support it, even his PIC0 and ICON0 are very similar to myne lol. But yeah anyways Tackling Metal Gear Solid would be a much better thread.

Hi Rain,

Im sorry but i am not actually trying to copy your thread as it has actually helped me a lot. I give you alot of credit and am not trying to cause any trouble or anything like that. I have created this for the noobs like myself that are trying to do this. Obviously this thread will be very much like yours but as i have said I am trying to tell this thread as i go along. I have struggled like you know for past week trying to get FFVII and IX to work properly. I have finally mastered the art of actually making the game work via 3 single eboots. I wanted to share this with everyone who was struggling along with doing this. I am now actually trying to create all 3 discs on to one eboot. The problem im having though is when i click "new game" it asks me to insert CD1. Even though it should be in. If anyone could help me crack that i can then write a quick guide on how to do it.

Once again everyone. This thread is taking nothing away from the work Rain has done as i admire his work and have seen numerous very interesting threads and guides this guy has done.

FF7 should not be done as multiple, however 8 and 9 need to be. I havent really messed with it myself and only lightly covered it in the second post of my thread. Main thing is u need to have the game id the same on each disc and use a certain pops version or higher.

ok mate i shall have a go at this. So are you saying it's not possible to create a multi disc for FF7?... i think i might have cracked it now.... I have done it as a multi disc and ran it with popsloader 3.71... seems to be working now. - Correction the music seems really quick.

Also if you remember i was having problems with my FF9. Did you ever get it working? I have a PAL copy btw. From the compatibility list it says there is problems for that but apparently so many people have it.

I didnt say it wasnt possible, I said you shouldnt. FF9 PAL would most likley need a patch like it does with other emulators. PSX2PSP can applyu the patch once found, dcemu or ngemu would be a good resource for general emulation information though im sure u can find the info here as well. MaxConsole also has a nice PS1 subforum.

Ok guys, Consider this tutorial finished. I have tested numerous things on getting the Multi CD done and its simple to do but i don't recommend it just like Rain said above as it makes the speed of the game ridiculous. Best to keep this as a multi. New Guide Coming Soon Guys. How to play Final Fantasy IX (pal) On the PSP. This will include how to take off the copyright to play it.

What do you mean by changing the game speed?

I made a multi-disc eboot for FF7 a few months ago that works almost perfectly. The only minor annoyance is how the weapon "hit" sound effects play. It's almost like it's backwards or reverse pitch. It took a few tries but I was finally able to get it running. (don't remember what I was doing wrong) Before I made my own version I *.torrent'd one that had eboots for each disc, it didn't have the sound glitch. Haven't figured out if it's a problem with the emulator (because of multi-disc?) or if it's just because my old FF7 CD's are too worn.

It worked well enough that I spent a lot of time figuring out how to take my old ps1 saves and convert them over to psp.
