I ordered what was supposed to be a vga to component cable but this is what I got. I tried all the possible combinations in the component ports on my hdtv in hopes it would still work but it didn't. I also tried just the yellow one in a standard rca hookup in hopes it would show video but it also didnt work. I contacted the ebay seller and he said that his warehouse was sending out wrong cables to many people and that he would refund my money.

I just want to know if there is a practical use for this and how? Or am I possibly missing something I should know?

aren't those composite? I had component cables rgb ones btw. Couldn't get mine to work. Only displayed a pink window screen and running wmp and firefox was buggy. :( Sad though some laptops have an s video out. Some hdtv's such as mine have different requirements for certain resolutions and colors it can display.

don't remember how I did this before try right clicking on desktop then properties then settings and advanced and see if you configure any settings there.

the thing is vga doesnt support audio so whats the point of having audio outs for a vga connector?

to make the cable look legit in order to scam more people

also which way is the connection going?
try it the other way around

connect it to a dvd player or something and see if something comes up on the comp screen

Those aren't even component.
The only think I could think of that you could use it for is to hook your computer up to a sd tv.
