Gah, Sculay on IRC is positive in thinking that I'm being DOS attacked.
Why? That internet problem I had is not only happening on one laptop computer now, it's happening to all 4 computers :o
So yeah, not much I can do ATM but sit it out, (BTW sometimes I can get on the internet, sometimes not :/)
I've rang up my ISP but just kept cutting me off when I requested the customer helpline number :S
Any other ideas what I should do?
Thanks.

What exactly IS a DOS attack?
It could be problems with Virgin Line maybe?
By the way, do you get Sci Fi Channel with your cable TV?

well you dont have uber fast access or a server farm or anything do you? that would be a reason someone would target your system. unless there is some reason somebody would actually want to attack you for long periods of time i would say it is almost certainly not a DOS attack. more likely is line problems, noise, a high contention ratio or loads of other things that affect broadband access. Normal people (ie not businesses) only normally get the kind of attacks where by somebody leeches your wireless or watches packet transfers to steal account details etc. but dont beleive the hype, an actual targeted attack on a normal persons computer is actually pretty rare
EDIT:just thought, ive been getting alot of problems with my mobile for the last day or two and it is affecting my friends on the same network as well. this all might be somethin to do with all the flooding goin on recently

is it wireless or are you running ethernet cables because if it's the cable it probably is a high concentration of microwave radiation interupting the flow of the single if it's wireless your settings might be wrong but i'd need to know more

Unless your computer is a server, there really is no reason why "random" incoming connections should be accepted at all.

I was told by Sculay that it was a DOS attack due to the fact usually NTL has "Static" IP's but we ran a program and it was something else :/
I'm kinda confused myself here :S
It is a bit of a coincidence that it's happened around the NTL > Virgin Media time. All of my computers couldn't connect to the internet earlier but now it's just MY laptop that disconnecfts every so often :/

Wow, you're complaining cause you can't connect to the net for a short period of time? You should see the disconnections I get here.

I'm getting tired of this, my mums laptop is fine, and my PC is fine.
I'm going to back up my files and format, then I'll let you know what happens.

formating wont do shit
clearly it did :P
and it definitely could. HE could have had certain programs that were causing it to disconnect or certain setting were changed etc etc...

^ Which means the problem is a local one, not a remote issue.
So his claim that he was being attacked is really false.

then it could be anything, and this is happening to all your computers? what sort of network do you have linking them together? if this is happening to all your computers it's either your phone line, your ISP jus fkin u up, or a DOS attack, tho I've seen cases worst then this..
